Well, the Grex Board Meeting was held on my kids' last night in town for awile, so I selfishly spent the time with them instead of attending. So... we need to have a publicity meeting! When and where? I vote for Monday, June 23--Dominicks Ristorante (near the UM Law School) 7:30. s'okay?
28 responses total.
hmmm, not only did no one respond, no one attended!
misti, i'd be happy to link any notice to or from agora about such a meeting, and i think that coop would be an appropriate place to herald plans, too. i'm not sure that all the users know there's a publicity cf yet, or that they feel it's a place generally to keep informed about important grex things. i'd like to help spread the word about this conference. lemmee know how i can help.

Thanks keats. Thanks Valerie. I've put another pointer in agora to this conference--and yes, linking the meetings item may be an excellent idea. Okay, so let's set up another meeting: what's good for you all?
If there's a meeting coming up, I'd mention it in the announcements item in Agora, and probably in Coop as well.
Ummmmmmmmmm
this item is now agora 18, too. i feel that publicity for grex is a funda- mental concern of the system and belongs on each community conference. so here it is. i also urge people to join and read the publicity conference because you never know when you'll be able to be of help at minimal trouble to yourself.
so when's the next meeting? some good things seem to be bustling for grex.
You all are welcome to meet without me--or I'll announce a meeting for after I've done moving, gotten back from my trip to San Antonio, and gotten back in swing of being a Mom again after a 3 month hiatus. (Maybe mid September)
We can (should?) meet immediately after the GREX open meeting on Sept. 9. The GREX meeting starts at 7:30, so we should be in session by 9:30. I'll bring flyers, and I request that anyone else who has some hanging around bring them too. We can distribute them to everyone who wants to paper towne. This is the season!

Really? Is Grex SUPPOSED to be 7E1? I've always called at 8N1, but then, I don't have problems with high bit ascii on my VT100 emul. (running off an Apple //: comm software ProTERM 3.0)... I noticed the high bit problem on the IBM, but I always used space parity... hmmm... oh well...
7E1 has always worked for me, for most UNIX systems I call.
I use 8N1, and have no problems.
I have to use 7E, on Grex & on at least one other Unix system I've met. But that one a friend had told me was 8N1, & when I checked back with him he assured me that he did use 8N. So apparently the emulation is the critical factor in whether 8N works. "stty everything" gives (for me): > old tty, speed 2400 baud, 0 rows, 0 columns > even odd -raw -nl echo -lcase -tandem tabs -cbreak > -nopost -noisig -stopb plus key assignments, for whatever it's worth. Man says "even" and "odd" in this context mean to allow even and odd (respectively) parity on input. So possibly I'd be able to log in with no parity, even though it looks like I'm getting garbage? Have to try it sometime.
The only problem with using 7E1 is that Grex seems to set the high bits on the characters it sends, making them show up as the graphic character set on IBM compatibles (silly as they are :) )... Is there someway to force the high bit down, besides calling at 7E1 or 7S1? It's annoying to always have to switch for d/ls...
The /etc/ttydefs file could probably be changed to use 8N1, or you can do "stty -even -odd". This only controls parity on *input*, though. I don't know if there's any way to control parity on *output*. Your communications program should switch to 8N1 automatically when you start a download.
(Back to Publicity Committee discussion?) /
Does Mr. Remmers dare attempt to stiffle an ongoing discussion, which is a result of the 'natural drift flow?'
So it would appear.
Good. It's about time somebody did.
Gack! Now we have drift about drift. Is that "meta-drift"? :)
Now who's drifting?
Everybody. Even a response on the original topic (which is Grex publicity, by the way) would be accused of drift.
So accuse ME! Yuppers, I'll drift right back to the publicity item ... mta made up and dstributed some Brilliant (well, extremely Bright anyway) flyers at the GrexWalkCoffeeChat today. [real glad I had my sunglasses.] Anywway, how else could folks get their hands on some, 2-3 at least, to put up "around?"
Well, I've put up my 2 or 3... I gave two to the computer science department at Pioneer, and one to the physics teacher... still have 3 left and debating where to put them....
Give them to the Pioneer DEBATING CLUB !!!!!!!!! now, there's an idea whose time has arrived .........
Since it seems to work out best to meet briefly after the Board Meeting, I suggest we plan to be there and meet afterwards. I will have 5 or so types of flyer available to anyone who can find new places to post them--or fruitful old places for that matter! ;) Anyone burning with new ideas?
