So, we are here to promote grex. an avenue I think we should pursue is getting grex listed. we could try to get grex listed in such places as nixpub, boardwatch magazine. we could even try to get mentioned in any new unix textbooks being written. we should especialy target the magazines. the number of magazines about telecommunicating seems to be growing as fast as our phone bills. your comments ? commendations, condemnations ? ;)

how about Computer Shopper or BYTE? There are several BBS listings in CS but i'm not sure about BYTE.
Sounds Great! Do you have any magazines in mind eugene? Can you get addresses for us? Jim, will Computer Shopper cost much to advertise in? How about BYTE?
That end of the question still being investigated. I will post something here when I know something.(heh)
I will try to find my copies of _Online Access_ and _Boardwatch_ to get the address from them. and once I get my new Hard drive controller, I may be able to log on in a regular fashion again. ;)
Just a reminder--we need those addresses before we can get started...

Hey, terrific! Great Job, power! (If we don't get on the list we'll just have to bug him again.)

Great info, Eugene--I'll e-mail them today! Thanks.
HOw about USENET to get the word out about grex?
I just got the new Online Acccess magazine at Krogers. This issue is all about bbs. including "over 3500 bbs phone numbers" it has both arbornet and mnet listed. but not grex. we shall have to give them a stern talkning to.
There is alt.bbs.ads where you can advertise for your bbs.

Indeed we are. The latest version, 313BBS26.ZIP, is in my home directory and available for downloading.
We also seem to be on the latest nixpub list. The short listing can be had by downloading /h1b/u/danr/nixpub92.short. I'll try to get the long version and upload it, too.
Hurrah!
if you send out a message ca. monthly to mi.misc you'll get some folks. and if you send it to alt.great-lakes you'll get the attention of people who left michigan and miss it, some of them just might call in.

Maybe we should try to get into the A2 Nooz. ;)

I'm quite sure that you could get grex mentioned in the A2 News. Greg Farnam did a story on the Internet (starring yrs truly :) for tech Thursday, if you approach him or them with the local angle that here you have a local coop running a system that is suitable for internet mail and what not (and compare it with the various "freenet" gigs that people have done for much more money, with usually not much better results) I think you have a story there.
Thanks for the name, Ed. I will try to get in touch with him.
Opppps. Looks like M-Net beat us to it.
They sure did! :(... Oh well...
in the way of drift, I hear Rumors of a Freenet coming to this area.

A bbs with an internet connection, with free access for everyone and anyone.
Send mail to lovesexy@churchst.ccs.itd.umich.edu if you are interested in hearing more about the Huron Valley FreeNet project.
(hmm... with that address, it must be some kind of free love net...)
Paul, do you have any more details? I had heard this A2 freenet stuff earlier but no one involved in it outside of the U. There is a "Network Users Group Ltd." non-profit that has bought an Msen connection, with the eye toward putting some part of the local public access systems on the net. Joe Stroup is the guy heading it up, he's "josephs@msen.com".
I think we could find a lot of new people who have just bought modems and don't know much about BBSs. I asked at the AA library on Plymouth. They had an outdated list from two years ago. The main branch may have more. I found out about GREX before I checked downtown. I just happened to go to a meeting about Internet at Zing's and asked around after the meeting. Although a lot of people may find out from work or other BBSs, I think it would be a good idea to post at the libraries, including branches. Also, an item in the Observer may be worth the money if the charge is small enough.
Great ideas, Bill, thanks. (Next flier party, shall we hit the libraries first, guys?)
