Grex Publicity Item 21: VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT
Entered by mta on Sun Aug 8 05:17:28 UTC 1993:

OK, folks, it's that time again. As publicity scape--uh Chair, I'm now
taking the names of volunteers to make a Cable Community Access TV
appearance on behalf of GREX. I'd like to tape this spot within the next
three weeks if possible but if you're willing but busy I'm sure we can work
out a compromise. The goal is to have the spot ready when the students
return.

A few caveats:

        * volunteers must be residents of Ann Arbor

        * volunteers must not have made a CATV Soapbox spot within
           the last 3 months.

Please? Won't someone volunteer to tell the greater A2 residents why
they like GREX? As much or as little prep assistance as you want is
available.

Thanks

Misti (mta)

Since Columbia Cable also holds the contract to provide CATV services for
Washtenaw county communities other than Ann Arbor, are you sure that the
'TV stars' need to be A2 residents?

In any case, I still think that we ought to get some bikini-clad
bimbos, & maybe a little violence, on our spot. It can't get good ratings
without at least one of the two.

Maybe popcorn would volunteer to put on her Daisy Dukes & do a dance
(if it wouldn't violate her Deja Vu contract...).

Well *of course* the spot needs sex and violence, but what about a car chase?

#3 of 28 by mta on Sun Aug 8 05:51:48 1993:

Tim, yep, I was informed that the "star" must be a legal A2 resident six months
ago when Dan and Russ did their thing, and again a month or so ago when
I started the proceedings to do the current spot.

That lets me out.
<sighs with relief>

re #1: Unfortunately, Tim, we cannot stage anything fancy. The entire
spot consists of two minutes of "talking heads."

#7 of 28 by aa8ij on Sun Aug 8 20:33:03 1993:

I'm not photogenic. But I do live in Ann Arbor.

I live just about 1500 feet from the northern border of Ann Arbor.

Re #6 - Only two minutes of Talking Heads? Come on, their best songs
are five or six minutes long. >8)

I'd volunteer, but my Ypsi Township residency would get in the way.

#9 of 28 by pegasus on Sun Aug 8 23:40:56 1993:

How many times do you get to retakes? I'd volunteer if I could be sure
that I could retape any fumblings because of nervousness.

#10 of 28 by bap on Mon Aug 9 02:06:36 1993:

I have experience on TV, both from college and at city council
meetings. I will volunteer if i have some creative control.

#11 of 28 by tnt on Mon Aug 9 02:15:23 1993:

I vote we let BAP control any & all nose twitches. :)

.,

#13 of 28 by tired on Mon Aug 9 05:01:40 1993:

I'll do it. Wake me up when it's time.

#14 of 28 by danr on Mon Aug 9 11:39:34 1993:

re #9: As I recall, we got to redo it once, and we probably could
have asked them to take one more take without stretching their patience.
Overall, the people doing the shoot were very nice, much nicer than
I expected.

#15 of 28 by mta on Mon Aug 9 19:21:45 1993:

bap, as far as I'm concerned you can have as much creative control as you
like. I'll do what you want/need me to do, and the rest is up to you.
(Oh, and we do have up to 5 minutes to speak.)

Pegasus, you can do retakes a reasonable number of times, you are
scheduled for .5 hour for a five minute (max) spot.

Either or both of you are welcome, either together (for moral support)
or alone a week apart for more creative control.

#16 of 28 by pegasus on Mon Aug 9 21:44:49 1993:

MTA,

Sure.. :) I'll volunteer if bap can't do it, or a week apart as you say.
What am I supposed to say? :)

#17 of 28 by mta on Mon Aug 9 22:34:07 1993:

Pegasus,

Just tell the world what GREX is is why you like it here. (You might
encourage your viewers to call, too.) ;) It's your minute of glory
so say what you like...or we can meet and come up with some points to
cover, or even a script, if you like.

I have volunteered to be involved in this and sent mail to some
relevant people with a sketch of an idea...

#19 of 28 by danr on Tue Aug 10 00:42:55 1993:

To those who have volunteered:

Don't worry, your spot can't be any worse than the first one, hosted
by power and yours truly. :)

#20 of 28 by aa8ij on Tue Aug 10 04:32:49 1993:

I have several ideas that could be written into "commercials". I'll
post one when I get it done.

#21 of 28 by power on Fri Aug 13 21:41:13 1993:

(God, danr, don't remind me!!!!! :) )... oh well... at least it got
the word out :)

#22 of 28 by mta on Wed Aug 18 20:06:17 1993:

Hey, don't knock it -- it brought in several new users! You guys
did fine. (OK, so it wasn't Cary Grant meets Spencer Tracey. You're
forgiven. You didn't get paid like them either. ;) )

#23 of 28 by remmers on Wed Aug 18 21:45:30 1993:

Yeah, it reminded me more of "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man".

#24 of 28 by danr on Thu Aug 19 23:23:11 1993:

Yeah, but who was who? :)

#25 of 28 by remmers on Fri Aug 20 10:45:42 1993:

Which one has the beard?

#26 of 28 by mta on Sun Aug 22 15:11:17 1993:

Hey, bap, knowing you're up against this kind of critic -- are you still
up for the task? ;)

#27 of 28 by bap on Mon Aug 23 01:40:14 1993:

I ain't scared. it's all water under the bridge in the end.
