We have a poetry contest every year at my workplace (http://www.flcities.com/ if'n you're interested) for Valentine's Day. I didn't win, but here are my entries. --- A Leaguer's Love -or- The Journey The bard that writes of cities' struggles finds the Florida League of Cities on the move; and barding scored by Home Rule's struggle proves success' road is long and full of plight. We Leaguers walk the upward Hill to bring the cities' voices to the House's ear; we scale the scree, the climbing way is sheer when cities' rights compel our venturing. What force inspires us daily still to strive when difficulty rears its ugly head? And by what torch are we, the League staff, led when we hold Home Rule's tattered banner high? When love for one another blooms in each, we lead with ardor's pure integrity. --- God s Love Wheel (with apologies to Shel Silverstein) God said to me with a little smile, "Hey, how would you like to be God for a while and steer the hearts of men?" "Okay," says I, with a flounce and a grin, "I'll give it a try. And I ll finally find out:" "Where's my hot mate, how much will he spend; what gifts will he buy and when I will get them! "Gimme back that wheel," says God. "I don't think you're quite ready yet."
