Grex Poetry Item 35: A Valentine's Day Poem [linked]
Entered by cloud on Fri Feb 12 23:16:49 UTC 1999:

I love you.

Oh, how I love you...

You are the beans in my chili.
You make me dance on the air,
and then I fall down,
but no matter, for you are there.

You are the crack in my jewel case,
the toothpaste stain in my tie,
that I could never get rid of,
no matter how hard I try.

You are the mix in my metaphor,
the pen on my paper,
which often gets all smudged, still
You are the candle which I taper.

You are the light on my match,
short burning, but bright,
You are the elastic in my breaches,
just a little too tight.

Yeah babe, I love thee.

You are the glasses on my nose,
which help me see even 'though
I often sit on them,
I'll repair them, you know!

When you smile it's a breeze
on a warm summers morn,
when monoxide is low.
And every time I see you I am born
on waves of ephemeral bliss.

You are the grit in my fingernails,
which I never clean out,
but instead let serve to remind me
what work is about.

You are the pages in my book,
the ink on the pages,
the bindings,
the cover, all of the stages!

When you sneeze it is with
the grace of a cat,
and with every sneeze
my love grows more fat.

For thee, oh pimento in my olive,
I would sacrifice my entire
entomology collection and few of my comics,
so do you set me afire.

Oh! You are the money in my pocket,
which burns a hole in my soul.
And if you just asked,
I would even vote Dole,

although he's done running,
I could just write him in.
Yes, I'd do that for you,
the finest of women.

Need I say more?
Yes I must,
but I can't
say all that I should,

for you're loves like a mid-October day,
(before all the major holiday's, but still
quite nice, if you don't mind the Halloween kitsch)
and in the fields of my heard do you till.

You are my rhyme and my rhythm,
like the beat of my heart,
and if you were to stop,
no pace-maker could get it to start.

Yes, if you were to leave,
my life would be bare
as a baby's butt,
before it grows hair.

So I hope you stay mine,
for now and all time,
or at least while I ask you...

would you be my valentine?

It's definitely quirky and unique, which is high kudos for poetry
concerning Valentine's Day. Very, very nice.

Well, I'm glad you feel that way.
