Grex Poetry Item 24: "Center stage" toking [linked]
Entered by toking on Fri Feb 5 11:05:48 UTC 1999:

too many things
too many memories
too many incandescent hatreds
burning all hot and heavy
all in the same head
and I'm thinking
And I"m thinking
And all I can think;
        Too many children
        Broken or destroyed
        Because of lust
Because the power is too much
Because they like to see us cry
Because they like to see us hurt
will it ever end
can it ever fade away
can pristine love
restore a shattered world
in a single lifetime
and I'm thinking
And I'm thinking
And all I can think;
        Too many children
        Broken or destroyed
Because the power is too much
Because they like to see us cry
Because they like to see us hurt
would you like to feel the scars
stretched across my mind
dessicated tissue in broken patterns
inherrited from a spitefull world
that just wanted to fuck
and I'm thinking
And I'm thinking
And all I can think;
        Too many children
        Broken or destroyed
Because the power is too much
Because they like to see us cry
Because they like to see us hurt

Well brothers and sons and friends
Let me tell you, let me fill you in
Well brothers and sons and friends
Come, let the circus begin
Center stage, center stage, that's where the action's at
Center stage, that's where we get our guns!

Well brothers and sons and friends
Too long have we been punished for our scars
Too long have we let this carry on
Well brothers and sons and friends
Center stage, center stage, that's where it ends
This is my gauntlet, here it's clatter loud and clear

Well brothers and sons and friends
It's the power you wanted
Through time and all eternity
It's your dream of supremecy
That's brought us to this place
Humanity I renounce you

Well brothers and sons and friends
I renounce you
Fuck you
I'm resigning from the human race

too many things all at once....bam! bam! bam! bam! bam! all in a pretty
row....too many things to deal with in the time alloted....

sorry folks...a little on the iffy side today and this was off the top
of my head...think of it what you will

I love it! Put to the sounds of Dream Theater while I read it... that last
stanza .. especially "I'm resigning from the human race" really gets the point
across...

This is great. To me, it starts off as a philosophic lament, then
switches to an orator's fiery denouncement. The two facets are nicely
presented and really convey mixed feelings.

This would do great as some thrashing angry heavy metal peice or somesuch.
I can just see certain parts, like the "Too many children..." or the "Center
stage, Center Stage..." bits set as some sort of bat out of hell chorus of
doom. It would rock!

well, sometime this week I may get a chance to record this one...

as it is, the first half (before the complete shift in style) is sung by
a friend of mine (even though I'd like it to be sung by zoe and her),
the music behind the singing is all mellow and girlie...as it breaks in
the "Well my brother..." it gets nice and loud and mean (with the
obvious drawback of me trying to sing)

Ooh...all our threats to make him record are finally getting to him, eh?

Cool. Very cool. If I send you a tape, will you make me a copy?
