Upon a pool deep and watery,
I see you, you stare at me.
Your claw was rubber-banded,
On my plate is where it landed.

Oh I'm sorry for what you lost,
It was plenty, what it cost.
You might think of me as a mobster,
Purely this, Ode to a Lobster.

I took money from the bank,
To take you from your tank.
Taking you from the bunch,
It is you i want to munch.

Pick you up with my little rake,
Ideas for you, yes you to bake.
Or maybe boil or maybe fry.
Soon too, you will die.

It is really some turmoil,
In the water, now you boil!
Now you're dead, flat and limp.
And tomorrow I'll have shrimp.

Welcome to poetry, trixxie.

It sounds mildly sadistic in a way, but it dances with such wit.. and 
charm.  I'd love to hear it read aloud just so my ears could drink in 
the rhythm.

The form is almost cliche, but then, the content is not, and so I 
reflect on it like an old tune with new lyrics-- not quite nostalgic.
(I remember when odes were very fashionable, and I don't think any had 
this kind of a happy, yet twisted tone.  Nice!)

thanks everybody. i wrote this about 2 years ago when i realized the 
pain and horror that real lobsters go through at meijers.
