Grex Poetry Item 124: Fear, A Poem.
Entered by mlf on Sat Aug 14 23:55:27 UTC 1999:

Please comment on my poem, recently published.
Fear

Fear trembles like driftwood
within the walls of a cistern well
with every action or motion around it
drawn down in centrifugal force
riveted to the drain
breathless, lifeless, hopeless,
waiting for the rescue that never comes
for its source is fear itself

So you got this published? Neat.

I like the imagery here and the word choices that reinforce it.

"within the walls of a cistern well" and "drawn down in centrifugal force" are
especially good phrases.

I take it the phrase "its source is fear itself" suggests a vicious cycle, or
self-destructiveness? I can't tell, because at first look, the concept seems
awkward.

Welcome, mlf, and enjoy your stay..it looks like you have much to share with
us. =)

"within the walls of a cistern well" - yeah, that's cool.

I'm Dan. Once upon a time I posted a lot here; I seem to have fallen behind.

Thanks for your interest in the poem Sindi urged me to enter even though it
was ad lib and not actual literal published version as I was not at my home
desk. Never thought I could write poetry, much less get published. This was
just a catharsis and means of expressing my personal observations and also
experiences. The actual completed and published poem goes like this:
Fear
Fear trembles like driftwood
Pounding furiously and frantically
Against the inside walls of a cistern well
With every rippling action or motion around it
Drawn down in centifugal force
Riveted to the drain
Breathless, lifeless, hopeless
Waiting for the rescue that never comes
As its source is fear itself.
Poet's comments: Yes, beleive fear is a vicious circle and paralyzing. The
worst disability by far is in failing to take risks to stand up for what is
real, true, good. Preserving integrity and principles rather than selling out
to the status quo regardless of the popularity "ripples" around and about us
and meeting even the most difficult of life's challenges head on with courage
and fortitude and trust gives the greatest measure of hope and freedom to the
human spirit. "Carpe diem!" "seize the day" for truly, we may not pass this
way again. Anyway, this journaled "poem " helped motivate me through a very
frustrating and discouraging walk-in fact, it still does...Someone encouraged
me to enter the poem, the rest was history. Hope it touches others in a
positive way. Glad you are here to read this, and glad I am privileged to be
here, sharing with each of you. Sincerely, mlf.

I'm Josh, I haven't read, much less posted, any messages for what must be
ages. School got in the way, took a death grip on my life, and throttled me.
