Where are some of your favorite places or themes when taking your photos?

Though its sometimes hard to do, I love the coast [especially the ocean but lakes are cool, too]. I like the light reflections, waves, the sea gulls, people playing in the sand and water, sea shells, sea grass, etc etc. I also enjoy other types of nature photography as well. And just about anything else that strikes my fancy [sometimes the silliest things are cool photographs]. And with people shots, I much prefer candids over posed ones.
I love the coast too. But I just have a hard time visually capturing the
same emotion of the time and place. My pictures end up being pretty
boring. I think I am trying to capture too much in a single frame (wide
lens), when I should break it down more and focus on lots of smaller
individual things, like the sea shells mentioned above.
As far as themes go... I think my next one will be of local motels and
motel signs, like
this one. Already I notice alot of them are being torn down or
replaced. Two that I can think of off hand are the Downtowner
Motel and the Holiday
Motel, and my favorite (though not a motel), The Chicken
Coop sign.
I used to primarily do wide angle shots but not all the time anymore. Though I've always been pretty good about doing 'candid' shots of individual people [and often, without them knowing, while I use the telephoto lense], more recently I've been doing more and more of isolating specific things to capture an area or place. And I, too, will often pick a theme to focus on. I think I've mentioned elsewhere in this conference that some of my themes have included such things as fences, shadows, clouds, and sunrises over the Atlantic coast. I like you're idea of the neon lights... [and thanks for the different links. There are a number of them here in MI as well as in NC that I've seen and remember]. Sometimes when I'm out somewhere and taking a number of photos, I'll also include one of a sign saying where I am; I haven't focused on any particular type of sign, though.
There's a new theme that Grexers may want to consider.

Re resp:2: When shooting landscapes I find it's best to get there
shortly after sunrise or hang around until sunset. I feel the warm,
low-angle sunlight at the beginning and end of the day gives the best
mood and picks up lots of interesting textures. For the same reason,
fall is my favorite season for photography.
I like fall photography, too; so far, we haven't had much in the line of color change here, though. Hmm, Colleen, I don't know if I have any pink photos or not--though I do think that yahoo is doing a good thing. There's definitely cancer in my family, including my mom who had breast cancer.

Here's a link to the 71 universal topics. http://www.flickr.com/groups/common-threads/discuss/72157600401510498/ Some of them include: Laughing Crying Fear Death Rituals Music Affection Taboos
I'm in a photo rut; I need to somehow come up with more ideas of what to shoot.
How about taking pictures of your own house... like in Better Homes and Gardens.
I do have a few photos of the outside [front] of my house and in a couple rooms inside but none in the back or on the 1st floor. My place isn't Better Homes and Gardens but I could still take some of the gardens I do have when the plants are in season.
