Boy, this is a dead conference. Needs a little action!
Are you aware of the "Focus on Michigan" photo contest sponsored locally by
the Ann Arbor News? If you are interested, I will reprint the rules and a

amateur is one who takes pictures as a hobby. To be
eligible as an amateur you must not receive more than
5% of your total annual income from photography.

to photograph nature, landscapes, visual or performing
arts, and people enjoying recreation. Photos depicting
"recognizable" people must submit a Subject Release

4" x 6". Matted or framed photos are not acceptable.

the darkroom.

the entry form instead.

stamped, return envelope
For maximum photograph protection, photographers are
encouraged to use padded or heavy cardboard mailing
envelopes
Entries that do not follow the above labeling and
packaging rules will not be returned.

entry form. Winning prints may be published by the
contest sponsors to promote the goals of this contest.

Oops! My prior note started out by saying the Ann Arbor News was the sponsor. Sorry, that was an error - I meant the Ann ARbor Dept. of Parks & Recreation. I would think the Grexwalk at some park would be a good subject matter!!!!!!
Well, I may be the only one entering, but I have two photos to send in. Both were taken at Hudson Mills early in the morning. The first is a color print of the steam rising off of the water with some muted fall colors along the edges. The second is a similar shot, looking toward an arched bridge. Even though this was on a color negative, I printed it on Black and White paper and opted for maximum contrast. The fog coming off the water looks like boiling steam and through the fog, you can just barely see a curved bridge in the distant background. In the forground are totally black silhouettes of weeds with seeds on top. Anyone else? (This may be easy to win!)
Hey! I just got a letter indicating my photo won 2nd place and it's being sent to the state finals! Also, I got a gift certificate for 2nd place. Not bad!
Congratulations!
BTW, what were the prizes?
The 2nd prize is a $20.00 gift certificate at Studio Center. I do not know what the first prize is - I think it may be a $50 certificate. I think I'll use it to try some of the new ASA 25 Kodak print film. (is it Royal Gold?)
Double WOW! I just got a phone call indicating my photo won 3rd place in the adult division for the State wide contest. It will be published in a magazine called "Leisure Focus." Someone from Ann Arbor, named Eric Arons won first prize!
Lake Superior Magazine is having their annual amateur photo contest. Deadline is October 25. Photos must not have been previously published and must have been taken in the Lake Superior area. Information and an entry form is available at http://www.lakesuperior.com/contest.html (Note: I'm not affiliated with this contest in any way, except that I'm thinking of entering. Just thought it might be of interest.)
Response not possible - You must register and login before posting.
