Entered by mcpoz on Sat Jul 22 02:30:43 UTC 1995:

Flash!
This afternoon at the Art Fair, the local photographer who takes nude shots
at local areas, took one at State and Liberty on top of the State Theater.
The subjects were two males and two females.

I hope they were using a U/V filter.

Wow. Cool. I didn't know Ann Arbor had such a photographer. Where's his/her
work displayed?

Well, right now it's in police exhibits. He and his models were arrested last
Friday evening for doing a shot in downtown Ann Arbor.

That's one of the hazards of his particiular trade. (Probably the arrest is
good advertisement)

I would think he could sue for false arrest. All he was doing was
taking pictures, like any news photographer would. What was the charge?
They had no right to confiscate his camera without a warrant.

Well, does A2 have some kind of indecent exposure ordinance? I think that
there is no legal basis for arresting the _photographer_ though, unless he
was
   a) Naked
   b) Standing near a street while doing his shoot, and thereby "disturbing
      peace" or something like that.
Remember that the city has 170 + years of laws on the books, including some
very old and ludicrous laws. Basically the cops can do what they want, and
there is enough blanket legislation for the city to cover its collective as
in a wrongful arrest suit.
