Grex Pets Item 16: Weird Pets
Entered by e4808mc on Thu Oct 17 04:16:37 UTC 1996:

I've got a hedgehog that may need a new home soon. Its an African Pygmy
hedgehog, and needs a whole lot more attention than my kids are willing to
give it. Looks just like sonic, very bristly, and very shy.
The problem is that it needs to be fed twice a day, and is a picky eater.
Does anyone else have a weird pet, and need help/info/advice?

My middle son, a serious soccer player, visits pet shops for fun. We were
amusing ourselves in some town in New Jersey between games of a tournament.
There was a pair, spines falling out, overweight, sick. We paid a ransom of
$100 and got them out of there. I fearfully checked the pet carrier every
rest stop on the drive back, afraid that they had died. One of them survived
six weeks (Scruffy), and the other (Patches) still trundles around our yard
and his cage. (Yard only when fenced in and closely watched: they
tunnel). We've had Patches a couple years now, but have no idea how old he is..

Patches still needs a good home. Anyone know anyone who likes little funny
animals?

Apparently the newest hot pets are hairless rats.

My daughter loves little funny animals. She has had a string a bad luck
with hampsters. Her third one died today, after less than a month. No
signs of illness....very strange. They are handled a lot, but not abused.
But can food be left? Otherwise, what does 'feeding twice a day' mean.
(The present menagerie is one gerbil and one turtle, otherwise.)

Rane, is your daughter old enough/interested enough to want a hedgehog? Email
me if she is. Otherwise, still looking for a home for Patches.

Hamster (deceased), gerbil, turtle and fish, all have different habitats.

There are plenty of algae eaters....off the top of my head: Siamese Algae
eaters, Otos, Chinese Algae eaters (aka gold algae eaters).
