How are your pets doing in the first heat wave of the season? Sunny usually barks non-stop from when I get out of the car until I open the back door to let her out to run. Yesterday was the first time she didn't make a sound when I came home. Of course both dogs are just laying around and panting. Actually, I'm jealous of them since I have to go in to work.

My cat seems fine. He runs outside as fast as he can as soon as the door gets opened in the morning, and wanders home a couple times a day. I see him lying on the neighbor's sidewalk in the shade now and then. Wish the kids and I were taking it quite so well :)
The super heat wasn't appreciated by either cat. But our old-lady- fluffykins likes general heat a lot better than other seasons, I suspect her arthritic joints bother her less.
Here's a tip for people with guinea pigs or rabbits. Rabbits do not sweat, they only release heat through their ears. To help them out in the hot months, take a small plastic pop bottle and fill it with water and freeze it. It's a good idea to do at least two for each cage so you have a spare frozen bottle. Put this bottle in the animals cage and it will cuddle up against it to keep cool. Simply remove the bottle at night an re-freeze. BTW..be sure to remove the lables from the bottles, these guys love to chew them if you don't.
Don't they chew up the bottles too?
No, they usually don't chew the bottles, maybe 1 in 100 will. I think that they may try to chew when the bottle is hard and frozen and find that they can't do it so they don't bother trying when the bottle defrosts.
My dogs usually have a tendency to use my head as a pillow together when I'm lying on the couch..:P
Gomez lies around during the day now, instead of hanging out with me or walking/running around. I make sure he has a constant supply of cool water (I change the water in the dish about four times a day). The living room is the coolest room, so I'm surprised he doesn't hang out in there more often, but I guess that means he's doing alright. I feel bad for him since he has that fur coat. I wish there was some way to cool him off that didn't involve water. ;-)
