Grex Parenting Item 115: Tell us about your kid(s)
Entered by jep on Tue Dec 2 22:26:10 UTC 2003:

What is it about your kids that makes them special? What about them
would be interesting to others if they only knew?

Introduce us, if you would, to your children, please.

(Including your offspring, your grand-offspring, your siblings, their
kids, or the short people running around your neck of the woods who
seem extraordinary to you for their importance in your life.)

25 responses total.

I tell my kid he is the B. K. E., and I mean it.

He has an often volatile temper, frequently becomes befuddled in
unfamiliar situations, and is demonstrably behind the curve in math.
However, he is his own group for reading at school (he reads at a much
higher level than other kids his age). He has the best smile. He
remembers to brush his teeth, and take his pills if he needs them, and
to comb his own hair.

When I see him, without exception, I am in a better mood.

B. K. E. Best Kid Ever.

my kid is special like every other kid on the planet,
in her case because she has exhibited a sense of humor
and seems to be flexible in her routine.

two other reasons that she is special is that she claps
her hands when she is happy and gives me *the bronx cheer*
at totally innappropriate times.

she is the next president of arbornet.

I am the short person in my neck of the woods. Damon (dea or data),
at 19, is 6'8" tall; Staci (dewshine or sea), at 16, is between 5'8"
and 5'9"; I am 5'3". They are both very intelligent and caring
people. Damon is a bit of an introvert, Staci is a strong extrovert.
Both have been on Grex since they were old enough to type
understandable sentences.

I have 6 nieces, 2 nephews, 1 grand-niece, and 1 grand-nephew. I
don't get to see them anywhere near enough. They range in age from a
few months old to 27 years old.

Todd, could we know the ages and genders of your kids at least? (John
is 7.)

#6 of 25 by jep on Wed Dec 3 03:24:46 2003:

Glenda, have either of your kids been embarrassed by anything you
posted about them on-line? Damon and Staci have to have grown up on-
line more than any other kids anywhere, at this point anyway. (But
Arlo and Kendra are well on the way to surpassing them in on-line
presence, in my opinion.)

Mine is 27. He's not home all that much the past few
years as he's working on his PhD, at Rutgers, in New
Jersey. I miss him. He has a great sense of humor.

I've never met your son, Mary, but I've heard about him from time to
time. What is he studying? Has he ever logged on? If you don't mind
my asking, how did you choose the name Carlos?

Everyone: you can post pictures or links here if you want. If you want
to know what John looks like, go to http://jep.tonster.com. There is a
picture or two of him there, I think. There are also a couple of
problems which I ought to resolve and will as soon as... you know.

I'll bet he's a cool kid, Todd.

They don't mind my posting about them online. They will correct me if I post
something they don't agree with. I usually tell them if I have posted
anything untrivial about them.

back into the interior of the olympic pen.

Our son is studying Philosophy. What that means, I've discovered,
is that he can argue a point so calmly and clearly that you don't
care who wins. You just want to change the subject. And your teeth
itch. ;-)

He is named Carlos because after 8 months of, well, animated
discussion, a deal was struck during the last few moments before he
was born. It's not a good idea to make big decisions while you're
in labor. I know that now.

But he likes his name.

re resp:19: My brother's first wife had a degree in philosophy. I used
to joke with her that she must have been studying for a career path as
a guru, and could open an office on a mountain top. She really hated
it when I said things like that.

Todd, I agree with remmers; your kid looks like you.
