Let's talk about GNOMES! Prosonaly I think that they're the coolest AD&D race
out there!

#2 of 73 by plork on Sun Feb 12 01:52:52 1995:

NO!!!! half-elves are, SOOOOOO many bonuses soooo few hindrences!!:-) Why do
you like gnomes so much?

#3 of 73 by phreakus on Thu Feb 16 16:22:59 1995:

Coolest Races I have seen: Elves Wemic (humanoids) Flind (gnoll subrace--neat
disarming trick) Gold, Silver, Bronze Dragons (Council of Wyrms) Lupin,
Rakasta (Mystara-LOTS of perception bonuses), Hengeiokai(sp?) Dog/Psionicist-
the perfect spy.

Are there any electronic D&D games out there....like a mud or something?
ok cool...

#5 of 73 by kain on Sat Feb 18 18:48:01 1995:

Mysteria?

#6 of 73 by dgd on Sat Feb 18 19:33:14 1995:

I know I'm going to regret saying this, but I still believe the human
player charactor is the best. they have no limitations at all. Other than
attributes.

#7 of 73 by kain on Sat Feb 18 21:31:57 1995:

In some ways I agree, but, what about age?

#8 of 73 by plork on Sun Feb 19 16:54:32 1995:

On the topic of videoized D&D, I haven't seen any worth considering, maybe on
home computers, but nintendo and sega, etc. systems really don't have any good
TSR games, but on computer there are a few, it just depends on who you are.

#9 of 73 by seveners on Sun Feb 19 23:31:14 1995:

If you're looking for the coolest race in the AD&D world, I think that it would
have to be kender from the Dragonlance campaign. They can act a little insane
at some times, but they're still the best!

#10 of 73 by plork on Mon Feb 20 00:15:23 1995:

Thanx seveners, We appreciate all your responses! We thank you all! Keep 'em
coming, And by the way, check out Al-quadim for the coolest kits...]

#11 of 73 by phreakus on Mon Feb 20 17:40:27 1995:

To dgd: Your attitude does not surprise me, but you fail to take one thing
into consideration: there are DMs who either modify or ignore rules they don't
likt like. In all cases, DM's word can override the rulebooks.

#12 of 73 by kain on Tue Feb 21 00:12:00 1995:

That can really suck at times :-(

#13 of 73 by phreakus on Wed Feb 22 18:43:43 1995:

Only if the DM is either a despotic dictator or a moron. Or both.
..

#14 of 73 by kain on Wed Feb 22 20:52:50 1995:

Could be, could be

#15 of 73 by plork on Thu Feb 23 00:54:17 1995:

I generally take some reality into play, I also don't let my PC's challenge me,
I don't tolerate it. And it keeps them from making too much of a deal of it.

#16 of 73 by kain on Thu Feb 23 02:45:54 1995:

Can go too far somtimes but he can be very nice too, last meeting, I trippled
my level with the deck of many things, it was special, no void, no donjon!

#17 of 73 by sidhe on Thu Feb 23 15:37:22 1995:

        GameMastering <oh, sorry, DM-ing.. this is the D&D item> is a fine
art. One must always be flexible enough to handle characters wandering
into places you hadn't expected, but rigid enough that you aren't run over
by some rules-lawyer.

#18 of 73 by kain on Thu Feb 23 21:12:22 1995:

I hate rules lawyers!

#19 of 73 by sidhe on Thu Feb 23 21:22:13 1995:

Well, the simplest way to get around them is to declare, at the
very outset, that you are running a "house-rules" version of the game.
This strips away much of what they see as their leverage. People who try
to run a "purist" campaign are ASKING for rules-lawyers to kill the fun.

#20 of 73 by plork on Fri Feb 24 20:44:28 1995:

Well, I create a a DM's avatar to whup them if they go to far! (right
kain?!?!?!?)

#21 of 73 by kain on Sat Feb 25 04:24:17 1995:

yup

#22 of 73 by orinoco on Sat Feb 25 14:29:24 1995:

If y'all are interested in some on-line gaming, check out the DS conference--
An ongoing DarkSun campaign is being DM'ed by *moi* at the moment, but
I will try to work in non-DS races if you insist and I approve.
Personally, I like gnomes. I don't care what bonuses a race gives, 'cos
I choose races for teh personality. Psychopathic Gnomes are fun to play,
as kain has seen

#23 of 73 by kain on Sat Feb 25 16:37:08 1995:

again yup orin

#24 of 73 by cyberpnk on Sat Feb 25 20:42:53 1995:

I had an encounter with an 'Orb of the Great Wyrm' once, and I got turned into
an albino. But I got an Intelligence of 19 out of it, so.....

#25 of 73 by phreakus on Mon Feb 27 17:56:55 1995:

How about a "Weirdest Encounters" item? I have some good material for that one!

#26 of 73 by dgd on Tue Feb 28 19:55:42 1995:

if one is a good dm, one can always work around the players if they surprise
him. Never set a game to go one direction, you'll always be disappointed.
and be very flexible. Dm are referees not dictators.

#27 of 73 by phreakus on Sat Mar 4 19:04:01 1995:

i have noticed something you use a lot, dgd....predestination. A character who
does does not believe in such a concept could throw you for a loop.

#28 of 73 by jamie on Tue Mar 21 01:04:40 1995:

Here's a nifty character, if you've got a lot of time on your hands to play...
Get a human Fighter, or Ranger, go up to about 10th level. Dual class to
a Wizard of some sort. Now, ordinarily 1st level Wizards have no combat
abilities. This one would have a Thac0 of ten or so, a few attacks a round,
and at least 50 HP. Weapon proficiencies too. Very nice. Dual classing
is one of the most powerful racial abilities, in my opinion.
And about the age problem of humans...if you're a mage, cook up a batch of
Elixers of Youth every few years, and you have no age problem.

#29 of 73 by kain on Tue Mar 21 03:05:08 1995:

cool jeff thanks for your input. gona join ds?

#30 of 73 by phreakus on Wed Mar 22 18:54:13 1995:

Here's another good idea--demihuman multi-classed Mage/psionicist. Wiht an
open-minded DM, it could work.

#31 of 73 by radagast on Sat Mar 25 09:47:04 1995:

As a DM, I find that the best campaign is one where there is no predesti-
nation and the characters are allowed to go where they will, right of
wrong. However, when I do get a bit full of myself, my players have
created and invoke the "DM sucks teleportation spell" in which all
players are teleported into the other room to watch Star Trek reruns
on video until the DM gets his head out of his backside.

#32 of 73 by phreakus on Mon Mar 27 19:29:11 1995:

In some situations, games can be the most interesting whenthe characters
get drunk/stoned/high (players are still sober-usually) Not recommended for
Paladins.

#33 of 73 by kain on Tue Mar 28 00:51:27 1995:

YEZ!!!!!!!

#34 of 73 by plork on Tue Mar 28 02:04:23 1995:

#35 of 73 by setzer on Tue Mar 28 20:46:19 1995:

Drunk? Stoned? High? When are we going to start a campaign like that?

#36 of 73 by kain on Wed Mar 29 00:45:58 1995:

that would be fun

#37 of 73 by plork on Thu Mar 30 00:36:31 1995:

#38 of 73 by phreakus on Mon Apr 3 17:32:18 1995:
