Entered by coyote on Fri Jan 12 02:39:48 UTC 1996:

This item is for an ongoing fantasy story like what kain suggested in item
81. Instead of most ongoing stories, people will write in whole paragraphs
or groups of sentances. So, let you imagination run wild, and have fun!

The clash of steel rang in his ears. Mordeki wiped the sweat from his eyes,
noticing almost unconciously it was mixed with blood. He looked around feeling
lost and confused. He stood in a field, a battle taking place around him, and
yet he couldn't remember how he got there. There were two bodies on the ground
athis feet, and blood on the swords in his hands, but he couldn't remember
if he had anything to do with their deaths.
Hoof beats caught his attention, he looked up to see a rider bearing down on
him with lance leveled. Feeling like he was dreaming, he just stared at the
approaching rider and did nothing. Another rider swept over the rise of the
hill to his right and intercepted the on-rushing rider. She raised a long
curved sword and cut down the other rider before he could turn his mount to
face her. Turning quickly she rode over to Mordeki and dismounted. He looked
at her closely, reconizing her features.
"Alex ?" he asked, almost apprehensive.
"Mord', what do you think your doing ?" She was both angry and worried.
Mordeki looked at her and began to panic. He knew her; Her name, her voice,
her face. He knew her but he didn't know from where !
His mouth worked opening and closing like a fish, but no sound came out. She
shook him by the shoulders and shouted at him.
"Snap out of it ! What's gotten into you !?"
He tried to answer, but he couldn't form any words. She was about to speak
when she glanced over his shoulder. Pushing him to the side she snapped at
him.
"Move ! Now !"
He staggered and turned, just in time to see her sword snap out and deflect
a spear thrust aimed at his back. She engaged the spearman, maneuvering to
get him in the way of a woman with an axe following close behind. Another man
with a spear avoided the melee, coming straight for Mordeki. Alex screamed
somthing he couldn't make out at him. In slow mation, it seemed, he watched
the spear point closing on his chest. Out of nowhere he watched his own arms,
weilding the pari of swords he'd almost forgotten about, come into view. They
parried the spear to one side, and his body lept into motion. One sword held
the spear away as he spun closer, the other blade sliding down the shaft to
cut off the spearmans fingers. He slid one hand back, and let go with the
other to avoid this fate. With the spear now out of balance Mordeki changed
the motion of his blades, forcing it out of his opponents hands. The same
motion became a spinning jump which ended with one sword buried in the
stumbling spearmans thigh, the other in his chest. He remembered Alex and
turned to help her.
The clash of steel rang in his ears, and Mordeki sat up suddenly. He wiped
the sweat from his eyes and wiped it on his night shirt. Another dream, but
so real it frightened him. He could still feel the weight of the swords in
his hands, and the shuddering of the dying man on the other end of them. The
woman, Alex. He seemed to know her so well, yet he had never met anyone who
even resembeled her. The fluid motion of the swords, he had never even touched
a sword. The battle was in a different place, the words exchanged were a
little different, but all the dreams were so similar, so many common themes.
He made his way across the room and lit a lantern. He went ot drink some water
from the pitcher on his mantle, and stopped at the blood on his fingers. He
stared at it, then touched a hand to his forhead. It stung and his hand came
away with more blood. That was a new developement, he'd never returned from
one of these dreams with anything from the dream. He thought he was handling
the whole thing rather well right up unitl he fainted a few moments later.

When he came to, he was in a soft bed (as soft as they get for straw) and
looking up into a strange face.
"Oh, your finally up," she said. "We had to bandage the back of your
head. You gave it a pretty nasty crack!"
It took a moment for Mordeki to realize where he was. He was in the
hospital or medicine hall of his villiage. Then he realized another thing.
The strange face he was looking into was the face of Alex, the warrior maiden
from his dream.

        "Alex?" mordeki asked.
"No" the maiden said, "You may call me aiela"
"What happened to me", Mordeki asked.
Aiela wondered if she should tell him waht happened, it was so strange he
might feint if he herd it. In the night without any warning the gashes has
appeared out of nowhere on Mordeki's face. And even if she did tell him, he
wouldn't believe her, so she said,
"You were making strange noises and you screamed. I ran to where you
slept, and just as I walked into the room, you jumped and hit your head on
the floor."
