Grex Oldrpg Item 70: non-advanced D&D
Entered by coyote on Tue Oct 31 22:33:48 UTC 1995:

This item is for people who still play regular D&D. Personally, I think that
this is still a really good and fun game. I'm going to try to have some games
if enough people are interested. If anybody would like to learn how to play,
just let me know and I will try to teach you. Have Fun!

Actually, I learned only on Advanced. However, I wouldn't mind digressing.
Nostalga is a nice feeling, though I have never played D&D, just AD&D under
both editions.

same as bjorn for me...but i do agree that you don't need rulebooks the
size of New Guinea for a good game, just simple rules a la D&D

#3 of 36 by eldrich on Thu Nov 2 17:39:05 1995:

Uh... No. You haven't seen the D&D rules cyclopedia. It's as thich as the
Ad&d monster manual and then some. You also (at least in the versions that I've
looked at) can't have non-humans using classes, that is if you do it by the
book(perish the thought)!

#4 of 36 by bjorn on Thu Nov 2 21:22:26 1995:

Actually, I have seen it. When I first started, I nearly mistook it
for an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons book.

#5 of 36 by coyote on Thu Nov 2 23:45:18 1995:

Well, The rules, as far as I know having never played AD&D, are pretty much
the same. You roll charactars the same I think, and fight monsters the same.
If anybody's interested, I could help you roll up a charactar and/or go over
some of the finer details of the game.

i see, just fewer race/class options...soinds interesting...

#7 of 36 by bjorn on Sat Nov 4 01:38:13 1995:

Well, somtimes less can = more in the long run.
=)

#8 of 36 by orinoco on Sat Nov 4 01:47:17 1995:

I don't doubt it...

#9 of 36 by coyote on Sat Nov 4 02:30:21 1995:

It's a lot of fun. You just need enough imaginative & interesting to play
it with.

#10 of 36 by eldrich on Sat Nov 4 15:53:27 1995:

Right now I'm working on my own pseudo-AD&D roleplaying system. It's going to
be basicly the samething, but with a simplified combat system and less
monsters and stuff

#11 of 36 by coyote on Sat Nov 4 19:55:06 1995:

sounds neat

#12 of 36 by setzer on Sat Nov 4 22:21:56 1995:

I've been trying to create a new campaign setting, but I can never seem
to find the time to work on it!

#13 of 36 by kain on Sat Nov 4 22:43:59 1995:

#17 of 36 by eldrich on Mon Nov 6 21:09:36 1995:

Actualy I was thinking about pulling a adventure together off-line, I've been
having uges to DM latly. I think it'll happen as soon as I get this system
together. Who's interested?

#18 of 36 by coyote on Tue Nov 7 01:43:38 1995:

I am!

#19 of 36 by starwolf on Tue Nov 7 18:12:40 1995:

I would consider it, if you lived anywhere near me...

#20 of 36 by coyote on Wed Nov 8 03:51:01 1995:

Ben, Who all in 8th grade RPGs? Maybe if you and/or I could gather enough
people, we could start a game. I have a neighbor who likes to play D&D, but
we can never find enough people to play with. Maybe he could play too.

#21 of 36 by jamie on Wed Nov 8 03:59:45 1995:

Hey, Coyote...you mentioned living in A2, right? And going to Emerson? Well,
I live right down Scio Church road from Emerson...if you do get a game going,
mail me, and I'd be happy to come. I'm not an 8th grader, but I'm not very
much older than that, either.

#22 of 36 by eldrich on Wed Nov 8 22:08:12 1995:

WOW! This is great! There aren't that many 8th grade players but Orinoco
(Daniel Vellemen from last year) and Moo (Adam Chase also last year) are avid
players. Hmm. Let me think.

#23 of 36 by kain on Wed Nov 8 22:13:44 1995:

I'll be glad to play just made a druid

#24 of 36 by coyote on Wed Nov 8 23:39:37 1995:

Kain, do you think you could help me make an AD&D charactar? I've got a
regular D&D one, but, so I've heard, the mechanics of rolling a charactar in
AD&D are slightly different. I also like to be able to have more character
variation than just fighter, halfling, elf, cleric, magic-user, theif, and
dwarf.

#25 of 36 by bjorn on Thu Nov 9 03:33:30 1995:

Fires of Dis will take as long is it takes the characters to complete it,
or until all player characters are dead (which hopefully won't happen).

#26 of 36 by bjorn on Thu Nov 9 03:53:39 1995:

We Start Fires of Dis in January. Fair?
The item will be in Dark Sun.

#27 of 36 by eldrich on Thu Nov 9 22:36:14 1995:

THERE ARE NO GNOMES IN D&D! HORROR OF HORRORS!
ps January iz fine w/ me.

#28 of 36 by kain on Fri Nov 10 17:28:53 1995:

yeah january is fine, yes coyote I could do that. bjorn, put the item here
first then orin can link it to dark sun

#29 of 36 by orinoco on Sat Nov 11 02:47:27 1995:

nice to see we've rounded up some more ad'n'd-er's...<orinoco dies of a
punctuation overdose>...good work eld...this is for the dinks adv?

#30 of 36 by bjorn on Sat Nov 11 06:22:05 1995:

I own Dark Sun, orinoco has not been added by remmers to the fw list yet.
Therefore, all linkage is done by me alone.
The item on Factions is solely in Dark Sun, one of the RPGs owners will have
to link it here.

#31 of 36 by eldrich on Sun Nov 12 01:33:13 1995:

Not for the dinks adventure Orin, I've been to lazy to work on that. I've a
quickie to get things going and get a feel for new players, from there I'm
going to try to find a nice dungegon adventure if I don't finish the dinks one

#32 of 36 by kain on Sun Nov 12 15:01:16 1995:

what item on factions?

#33 of 36 by bjorn on Sun Nov 12 22:55:18 1995:

Re #32: I presume you have forgetton that you must go into the Dark Sun
conference in order to find the item on Factions. The item, however, is by
no means complete - "A Player's Guide to the Planes" does a better job of
explaining the Faction restrictions than does "The Factol's Manifesto". The
former book is a component of the Planescape boxed set.

I believe that the Faction item is # 27
<did forgot not I sure, am>

#34 of 36 by kain on Sun Nov 12 23:04:23 1995:

okay 1,2,3 LINKED!

#35 of 36 by bjorn on Mon Nov 13 17:29:41 1995:

I believe that they were actually linked (all three, right after I typed
that resonse)

#36 of 36 by kain on Sat Nov 18 03:27:37 1995:

oh, whops owell
