#6 of 65 by bjorn on Wed Sep 13 01:35:10 1995:

You know, I bought a CD-ROM GAME based on the SPACE HULK chapter of
Warhammer. It doesn't work, though. I'll have to complain to
Electronic Arts.

#7 of 65 by orinoco on Wed Sep 13 20:14:22 1995:

speaking of which, does anybody have space hulk? is it any good?
Likewise with titan legions

#8 of 65 by eldrich on Thu Sep 14 20:30:11 1995:

I've found the liturature on titan leagons and it looks cool, but two GW games
is more than enough. I saw a little blurb in white dwarf about a WHFB computer
game. Didn't give much though.

#9 of 65 by jamie on Thu Sep 14 21:52:33 1995:

Speaking of computer games, has anyone played Warcraft 2? My little group
of friends really liked the first one, and we'd like to know if the sequal is
as good....

#19 of 65 by bjorn on Fri Oct 27 04:20:14 1995:

Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

#20 of 65 by coyote on Sat Oct 28 19:53:25 1995:

What's Warhammer and what do you need to play. All these games here sound
great, but I don't know anything at all about them.

#21 of 65 by setzer on Sat Oct 28 19:58:40 1995:

Yeah, that's what I've been wondering, too! What exactly is Warhammer?
Book game? Card game? Computer game? What?

#22 of 65 by bjorn on Sun Oct 29 05:32:37 1995:

Warhammer is fantasy wargaming involving miniatures and tape measures,
and few other things I don't know about.

#23 of 65 by orinoco on Sun Oct 29 14:48:21 1995:

There are many forms of warhammer, varying mostly in their setting. One is
set in a pseudo-medieval world, several in the far future, one consists
entirely of sea battles, etc. They all have several things in common.

Basically, a game consists of moving miniatures (or scraps of paper for those
unable to afford miniatures) around according to set rules. There are also
rules governing miniatures trying to kill each other off by shooting them
or whopping them over the head with various weapons or blasting them with
psychic power.

Before the game begins, you must choose your army. First you choose a race to
play--humans, dwarves, high elves, wood elves, dark elves, chaos (the forces
of evil), undead, or skaven (half-rat/half-human). Each race has a list
of different troops that they have access to, the weapons you can give
those troops, the special rules governing those troops, and how many
points the troops cost. Both players, before choosing their army, must
agree on a certain number of points that their army will not exceed.
These points are used to "purchase" troops, weapons, magic items, etc.

The two versions of the game that eldrich and I play are WHFB (warhammer
fantasy battles) and 40K (warhammer 40,000). WHFB is set in a typical
fantasy world, with some unusual additions (such as the skaven). In WHFB,
hand-to-hand combat tends to be the most important, and troops fight in
large units of anywhere from 5 to 50 or more troops.
40K is set in a very interesting futuristic setting. There is more
emphasis on shooting, and a much wider choice of weapons and armor. There
are also special rules dealing with tanks, giant robots called dreadnoughts,
and bunkers.
Personally, I find 40K to be the more enjoyable of the two. Although the
rules are more complex, and games tend to take longer, it is (IMHO) the
better-made of the two games, and the setting is *very* well done.
I would recommend WHFB, however, for those who are new to wargaming.

#24 of 65 by eldrich on Tue Oct 31 21:38:43 1995:

40k is very hard to learn unless you have a very patent person to exsplain it
to you and answer the million of question that are sure to come. WHFB is much
easier, less table and shooting, much less looking stuff up and lots of easy to

think shamu plays too.
<Eldrich wants someone new to play with>

#25 of 65 by orinoco on Thu Nov 2 01:11:41 1995:

Anybody interested and living in the A2 area, I would be glad to get together
with sometime to teach 'em the ropes and do some gaming

#26 of 65 by starwolf on Thu Nov 2 16:42:07 1995:

Anybody play Battletech?

#27 of 65 by eldrich on Thu Nov 2 17:28:17 1995:

nope

#28 of 65 by bjorn on Thu Nov 2 21:20:47 1995:

I would, but I prefer Rifts over -Tech.

#29 of 65 by eldrich on Sat Nov 4 15:45:56 1995:

Is Rifts any good? I've heard bits and pieces about it but not much more than
 that.

#30 of 65 by starwolf on Tue Nov 7 18:06:25 1995:

From what I've heard, the setting is good but game emchanics *SUCK*

#31 of 65 by orinoco on Sat Nov 11 02:43:01 1995:

game mechanics aren't too bad, but I don't have much to compare it to.
Suck how? to complex, too simple, what?

#32 of 65 by starwolf on Tue Nov 14 16:30:30 1995:

In palladium, Machines and living creatures have *hit point* totals, and can
fight at full capability until destroyed. the Star Wars system is much more
realistic in that manner--which is why someone I know converted the *entire*
Robotech RPG to Star Wars rules format.

#33 of 65 by bjorn on Tue Nov 14 22:32:13 1995:

I the Star Wars campaign I am currently in, there ain't been much combat.

#34 of 65 by eldrich on Tue Nov 14 23:28:01 1995:

Is star wars nice? I had a friend who tried to do a star wars campaign, but it
never worked out.

#35 of 65 by bjorn on Wed Nov 15 15:39:34 1995:

It's cool, it's simple.
Lack of combat is kind of a problem for my Bounty Hunter, though.

#36 of 65 by starwolf on Wed Nov 15 18:25:40 1995:

Empire- or New Republic-era?

#37 of 65 by bjorn on Wed Nov 15 21:11:58 1995:

We're kind of in the middle the second movie.
My Bounty Hunter is Imperial

#38 of 65 by eldrich on Wed Nov 15 21:47:23 1995:

Fun! Hunting anyone in perticular?

#39 of 65 by jamie on Wed Nov 15 21:52:47 1995:

I had an X-wing and took on a Star Destroyer....I managed to eject before I
crashed my X-wing through the bridge, but then I was killed by the TIEs...
