Grex Oldrpg Item 49: MTG [linked]
Entered by morgayn on Sun Jun 11 15:07:39 UTC 1995:

Well, I am truly sorry some people don't like MTG, but I like it and I play it
and I am creating this item so people like me who like it can discuss it
without being told how evil it is and how it isn't a *true* rpg. I just like
to play it. I think of it more as a strategy game. Have fun with this one. :)

If you want to talk about M:tg, I suggest you come to the RPG conference, where
there's already an M:tg item or three.

        <Selena forgets a second item>

#4 of 193 by mneme on Mon Jun 12 06:45:31 1995:

Hmm. mtg IS fantasy, I suppose, but it isn't RPG in the least; just a cool,
addictive, expensive strategy game, with very little tactics. Prehaps enigma's
a better place?

#5 of 193 by phreakus on Mon Jun 12 17:40:36 1995:

Here's a novel idea---*Why not an MTG item in Games*?!?!?! <;*{

#6 of 193 by anne on Mon Jun 12 18:27:38 1995:

I think this is a good place for it, a lot of it is fantasy- magic, summoning
creatures, using sorcery and enchantments. I think this is a good place for
it, and if people are such rpg snobs that they don't want to discuss it
then they don't have to reply. I play mtg, and I'm quite fond of it.
So for all of you who don't like that game DON'T READ THIS ITEM! this
is what the forget command is for.

#7 of 193 by phenix on Mon Jun 12 19:14:06 1995:

you go anne-lady!

#8 of 193 by anne on Mon Jun 12 20:27:00 1995:

Thank you Greg. <anne huggles Greg>

#9 of 193 by morgayn on Mon Jun 12 21:54:19 1995:

Well, you know....honestly, I don't think it is necessary to start trying to
figure out what is or is not fantasy. Has anyone ever looked at some of the
artwork on Magic cards? I, for one, think the artwork in some is worthy of a
fantasy rating by themselves....now add in the fact that you are creating and
trying to dominate a world other than that which we live in. It is an rpg of
sorts, perhaps not nearly as intricate or sophisticated as others, but you are
taking on the role of a wizard, or wizardess, of Dominia. You cast spells,
call forth creatures, use special objects and attempt to become the only
player with life points left. I do not understand how this does not fit into
fantasy....

#10 of 193 by phenix on Mon Jun 12 22:21:11 1995:

i think it does.
let the mtg item LIVE!!!
btw: randy asphald-faith is a great artist as are a number of other
artists that do magic cards.

#11 of 193 by morgayn on Tue Jun 13 14:44:38 1995:

I made a typo, instead of Dominia, it should have been Dominaria. :) And yes,
some of the artists do wonderful work. My favorite one so far is the drawing
on one of the ice age cards, order of the white shield....finally a female in
fantasy type surroundings who is wearing clothing! :)

#12 of 193 by jamie on Tue Jun 13 23:50:53 1995:

Famtasy females in clothing? The world is coming to an end! <sarcasm mode
off>

#13 of 193 by morgayn on Wed Jun 14 12:04:54 1995:

Well, you know, it does get somewhat irritating when everywhere you turn, these
women are half-clad, and excuse me, but, you don't find women running around
like that, perhaps that is why it is fantasy? *tee-hee* ;)

#14 of 193 by phenix on Wed Jun 14 14:23:08 1995:

hey, i know someone who WANTS a chain mail bekini.
and i did not think that the women in either "banalish heros" OR rightiousness
were in reavealing clothing.
btw, i am kinda parshall to `earthbind':)

#15 of 193 by phreakus on Wed Jun 14 16:51:53 1995:

I thought you'd like the fire elemental too.....

#16 of 193 by setzer on Wed Jun 14 20:23:20 1995:

You people are sick! Just plain sick! They're PICTURES!!!!!!!!
(Photos are better!)

#17 of 193 by anne on Wed Jun 14 22:51:00 1995:

But you can't get photos of these kind of things... I'm rather fond of
the fire elemental cards (although put them in a row they almost look
like they're trying out for the rockettes... ;) ) From the fourth revised
edition (I don't know if it came out before, but it's new to me) I like
Visions... the artwork is really cool, so is the Adarkar Unicorn, and
I really like Spirit Link... I think that's enough... later!

#18 of 193 by phenix on Thu Jun 15 01:07:59 1995:

how about kismat or sharazahd.
bird madian was cool too.

#19 of 193 by setzer on Thu Jun 15 01:36:26 1995:

whatever...

#20 of 193 by morgayn on Thu Jun 15 02:54:33 1995:

Hmmm...great...drift into the subject I am trying to stay away from. :(

#21 of 193 by phenix on Thu Jun 15 14:55:21 1995:

sorry morg......
<frown>
<phenix is asking lady blade for forgiveness>

#22 of 193 by morgayn on Fri Jun 16 01:57:03 1995:

*Lady Blade forgives phenix but doesn't understand what she is forgiving him
for because although she doesn't want to talk about half-clad women, he isn't
the only one who drifted.:)*

#23 of 193 by jamie on Fri Jun 16 23:59:47 1995:

Here's something rather warped...somebody stole a Seasinger and an Earthbind
from me while I was playing with someone else...I think I know who it was,
and I know they don't play Magic. This person had also been making rather lewd
comments about my Fire Elemental.

#24 of 193 by plork on Mon Jun 19 14:52:18 1995:

WOW!!! Creative drift!!! form whether an item stays, to pornography in Magic
cards. *teehee* If anyone wants stuff like that. In Star Trek, have you seen
Lursa....

#25 of 193 by phreakus on Tue Jun 20 16:57:49 1995:

THe artwork on the Lesser werewolf sucks

#26 of 193 by plork on Tue Jun 20 23:39:13 1995:

Not lesser werewolf, Lursa.

#27 of 193 by marvil on Mon Jun 26 10:37:45 1995:

you are all boring me

#28 of 193 by morgayn on Mon Jul 3 14:40:59 1995:

*Lady Blade looks at her goal in this conference and sees that it is not to
entertain marvil and thinks he should seek amusement elsewhere*
Anyhow....that's silly, Jamie.

#29 of 193 by anne on Mon Jul 3 15:48:53 1995:

<anne is in agreement with Lady Blade>

#30 of 193 by jamie on Mon Jul 3 21:49:09 1995:

Well thank you, I try...but it did happen.

#31 of 193 by jritz on Sun Jul 9 13:10:02 1995:

by the way there is a mtg item in rpg and if you there fws want to I'm sure
setzer'd be happy to link it.

#32 of 193 by kain on Sun Jul 9 15:54:21 1995:

<this item is now linked to rpg>
and we do have a mtg item there so magic fan? check it out.
<I am responding from rpg from here on>

#33 of 193 by morgayn on Tue Jul 18 14:16:22 1995:

Hmmm....well, now that the item has somewhat drifted....
Anyone know when the Chronicles expansion set is coming out?

#34 of 193 by anne on Tue Jul 18 19:40:45 1995:

Nope, but I wanna box! Shall we split one Lady Blade, or fend for
ourselves? ;)

#35 of 193 by kain on Wed Jul 19 15:13:08 1995:

I have no idea september I think
if you live in a2 riders is already pre-ordering them.

#36 of 193 by morandir on Thu Jul 20 15:10:49 1995:

Question: Is it possible to make a good LAND DESTRUCTION deck
without using Sinkholes or Winter Blasts? With Blights and Strip
Mines in the new expansion sets, a friend of mine is at work now
on an *all black* LAND DESTRUCTION deck (with Demonic Hordes, etc...).
I'm thinking he should use a black/red combo...

#37 of 193 by phenix on Fri Jul 21 16:58:17 1995:

well, stone rain, clensing, ice storm.
strip mines are from antiquaties
also mana vortex

#38 of 193 by anne on Sat Jul 22 18:28:15 1995:

Strip Mines are also in 4th edition.......

#39 of 193 by starwolf on Sat Jul 22 19:57:14 1995:
