Well, I still have my 8-bit NES, though I don't use it much.
Nevertheless, two of my all-time favorites are the classic
Legend of Zelda, and Metroid.

#2 of 49 by jsr on Fri Feb 10 19:29:10 1995:

I know, strictly speaking, these aren't RPGs. But they're close
enough, and they ARE great!

#3 of 49 by kain on Fri Feb 10 23:53:09 1995:

any video games at all are welcome just enter an item for them!

#4 of 49 by kain on Sat Feb 11 19:13:06 1995:

YES< I lke those kind to! But Final Fantasy was the best RPG made for the NES!

#5 of 49 by spamwich on Sat Feb 11 20:13:41 1995:

Moldy I am NOT!

#6 of 49 by plork on Sun Feb 12 01:50:56 1995:

I think that many underestimate the RPG's on 8-bit, but the classics still
remain, Thanks new responses, Keep on coming!! Also check out other items!!

#7 of 49 by jsr on Mon Feb 13 13:16:41 1995:

The Dragon Warrior games were reasonably decent. So was the little-known
Dungeon Magic.

#8 of 49 by plork on Mon Feb 13 15:02:48 1995:

I had that once, but I hated it. I think that it could have been made better.
That wasn't well known probably because all the reviews that I have seen were
strictly negative.(including mine) most thought the game sucked

#9 of 49 by jsr on Mon Feb 13 21:18:19 1995:

Well, to each his own, I guess. I kind of liked figuring out the best
magic "incantations", but I can see how that might not appeal to
everyone. Personally, I still think it's underrated.

#10 of 49 by plork on Tue Feb 14 22:26:18 1995:

Yeah, it WAS pretty good 3-d and stuff, but the magic was just mostly guessing
which wasn't great, but it was ahead of it's time.

#11 of 49 by dgd on Sat Feb 18 19:30:19 1995:

gon warrior games. I'm wondering if they will expand into super NES?

#12 of 49 by kain on Sat Feb 18 21:31:12 1995:

I really doubt it

#13 of 49 by plork on Sun Feb 19 16:51:33 1995:

In Japan, Dragon Warrior five is on the super-famicom, and Enix is working on
transllation to english and english likes. It looks somwhat like final fantasy
though.

#14 of 49 by seveners on Sun Feb 19 23:26:36 1995:

I have to agree with kain, Final Fantasy is the best RPG for the NES, but it
does get boring after a while. The graphics and music hardly ever change, and
it takes so long to build levels. Still, it's probably the best one out there
for the NES.

#15 of 49 by plork on Mon Feb 20 00:13:17 1995:

Yeah, I didn't notice more than five different musics for it, but it was an '89
game, give it some credit!

#16 of 49 by phreakus on Mon Feb 20 17:33:44 1995:

The 8-bit systems are *dead*, people! Upgrade or delete!

#17 of 49 by jsr on Tue Feb 21 14:20:15 1995:

Delete?!?!??? Whatever for? I paid good money for my NES, back
when it was THE game system. If the games still work and they're
fun, why should I just chuck 'em? Sure, I play the new stuff, too.
But that's no reason to forget the old games. For all their
limitations, the best old games are better than many of the newer ones.

#18 of 49 by kain on Wed Feb 22 01:08:33 1995:

He definatly has a point, (if your system still works!)

#19 of 49 by plork on Thu Feb 23 00:49:15 1995:

Well, mine works fine, phreaakus, we don't need such pessimism in this
conference. We like our systems and if you find a problem with that I suggest
you ignore this item, but try to understand, SOME of us don't have the $$$ to
get a $100 game system.

#20 of 49 by seveners on Thu Feb 23 21:17:39 1995:

plork, put the gun down. It's OK!

#21 of 49 by plork on Fri Feb 24 20:40:56 1995:

Oh, alright, but let's keep on topic!

#22 of 49 by phreakus on Mon Feb 27 17:53:03 1995:

Since you persist this anachronism, I'll give you 3 words of wisdom:
DRAGON WARRIOR IV

#23 of 49 by ceaser on Sun Mar 5 23:21:59 1995:

I agree It's the beast. And I only plyed it a couple

#24 of 49 by phreakus on Mon Mar 6 18:07:14 1995:

Another goodie: CRYSTALIS

#25 of 49 by kain on Mon Mar 6 22:05:27 1995:

You bet I loved that game

#26 of 49 by seveners on Tue Mar 7 18:28:25 1995:

Yeah, even though it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it, it's still
a pretty cool game!

#27 of 49 by plork on Fri Mar 10 14:22:56 1995:

Try the warrior ring and crystalis sword on DYNA. It's REAL COOL!!!

#28 of 49 by phreakus on Fri Mar 17 18:51:53 1995:

I wish you could get Crystalis earlier.

#29 of 49 by kain on Sat Mar 18 20:52:07 1995:

yeah{

#30 of 49 by plork on Fri Mar 24 00:23:55 1995:

YOU CAN'T EVEN USE THE STUPID THING OTHER THAN IN THE BATTLE WITH DYNA!!! WHICH
REALLY SUCKS!!!!!

#31 of 49 by setzer on Fri Mar 24 20:50:39 1995:

And DYNA not that hard once you get Crystalis. Why don't they just end the
game after you beat what's-his-face?

#32 of 49 by kain on Sat Mar 25 01:13:50 1995:

Because there was all that blaber about the tower.

#33 of 49 by plork on Sun Mar 26 00:32:48 1995:

It was too short and too easy otherwise, just fly to Draygon and use deo's
pendant if you run low on MP, TOO EASY!!!!!

#34 of 49 by phreakus on Mon Mar 27 19:25:26 1995:

With Deo's pendant and the Psycho Armor, who needs an Inn?

#35 of 49 by kain on Tue Mar 28 00:50:29 1995:

really

#36 of 49 by plork on Tue Mar 28 02:03:11 1995:

They really should have made it either longer or more challenging.

#37 of 49 by setzer on Tue Mar 28 20:42:57 1995:

Maybe if they doubled the length of the game AND replaced Deo's pendant
and the Psycho Armor with some wimpy stuff, it MIGHT be challenging. I
mean, the whole idea of the swords and everything was kind of cool, but
they made the plot way to easy.

#38 of 49 by plork on Thu Mar 30 00:35:56 1995:

AND give you a chance to get used to Crystalis (the sword) and give you a
longer plan of destroying the tower in the sky. Maybe make you get captured by
draygon and have to use a steel sword for a bit....

#39 of 49 by setzer on Thu Mar 30 17:13:21 1995:

Yeah, and then after just barely escaping the claws of Draygon, you fall
overboard on your trusty rowboat and stumble upon a secret underground
city, run by mermaids and the liking.
