In *OTHER NEWS* Because The War Zone has sales tax figured into their prices,
it's cheaper and easier to buy there than at Riders.

***PLUS*** (my favorite term) a funky nu (actually old and unknown) RPG fsorry
PC called Bloodstone. It has a creative environment and real life feal (even
though the graphics arent the best). It has a combat system similar to SSI's
in their AD&D games.

#16 of 84 by kain on Sun Feb 19 14:40:48 1995:

coolness

#17 of 84 by plork on Sun Feb 19 16:59:47 1995:

If anybody want's the latest in VIDEO games that are rpg's go to the store and
get Nintendo power or game players, I wasn't to impressed with sega visions, I
think it was a take off of serious magasines like the ones I mentioned, They
give you a review.

#18 of 84 by kain on Tue Feb 21 00:13:06 1995:

I'm going to get a new RPG for the snes soon, what do you guys sugussed?

#19 of 84 by jsr on Tue Feb 21 15:04:49 1995:

Well, I guess you've played all the FF games, probably Zelda III and
Super Metroid, too. That leaves (counting only games I've played,
in order from best to worst, IMNSHO):

Shadowrun, Secret of Mana, 7th Saga, Lufia & The Fortress of Doom,
Out of This World (an unusual style game), Breath of Fire,
Soul Blazer, Lagoon, Wanderers from Ys 3. Don't waste your money
on the last one.

#20 of 84 by kain on Wed Feb 22 01:10:43 1995:

What's shadowrun like?

#21 of 84 by phreakus on Wed Feb 22 18:44:11 1995:

Hard.

#22 of 84 by kain on Wed Feb 22 20:53:25 1995:

Cool, is it a Like the FF3 type, that's the kind I like!

#23 of 84 by plork on Thu Feb 23 00:56:46 1995:

No, kain, I suspect you'll have to broaden your horizons for it. It's more
adventure oriented, I'll show you a review tommorrow at school

#24 of 84 by kain on Thu Feb 23 02:46:49 1995:

Cool, but what other FF like games are there?

#25 of 84 by jsr on Thu Feb 23 15:40:33 1995:

Keeping in mind that there really isn't anything (that I know of)
that compares to FF, the closest ones from my list in #19 are:
7th Saga, Lufia, BoF. I liked 7th Saga (maybe more than it deserved).
Its main distinguishing feature is that there are not one, but
seven primary characters, with varying abilities in fighting/defense/magic.
You choose the one you want to play -- the other six will show up from
time to time in towns and castles. They may offer to be your partner,
but maybe they'll want to fight. Choose your partner (and your
enemies) carefully...

Is this item devoted entirely to only VIDEO releases? If not,
I'll post some of what I've heard is coming from the insiders in the
BOOK rpg trade.

#27 of 84 by kain on Thu Feb 23 21:14:45 1995:

Certanly not

#28 of 84 by sidhe on Thu Feb 23 21:24:14 1995:

Certainly not devoted, or certainly not in this item?

#29 of 84 by seveners on Thu Feb 23 21:34:45 1995:

What's Lufia like? I've watched someone play it, but I've never gotten to play
it myself. I'm looking for a rpg that would actually be CHALLENGING! Too many
of the games these days are so #!*$@^# easy, it's not even funny.

#30 of 84 by kain on Thu Feb 23 22:55:12 1995:

Certanly not devoted!

#31 of 84 by jsr on Fri Feb 24 14:52:25 1995:

I know what you mean about lack of challenge. Great as FF2 and FF3 are,
they are actually pretty easy. I would recommend Lufia, but I can't
rate its difficulty level too well. It WAS difficult in one respect
(for me, anyway). There was a required item, pretty well hidden, which
took me a REALLY long time to find. By the time I found it, my party
had built up so many levels that the monsters seemed like real wusses.
Lufia has a reasonably entertaining story and a good sense of humor,
which made the game worthwhile for me.
7th Saga is much more mundane, it's main gimmick I already
described in #25. The story is the time-worn "find the seven runes",
though it does have an interesting twist or two. The difficulty level
is pretty high. You'll probably find yourself (a little too much for
my taste) hanging out in easy areas in order to build up enough
experience to enter new areas without getting pounded. In some cases,
the bosses are a lot easier to beat than the wandering small-fry.
There are a few interesting "secrets" in 7th Saga, which Lufia (to
my knowledge) lacks.
Breath of Fire has a long, complicated, forgettable story and is
relatively easy. I guess it was worth the money on length alone,
but it wasn't my favorite game by any means.
Want any more opinions? They're free...

#32 of 84 by sidhe on Fri Feb 24 16:24:28 1995:

Well,in that case, I'll have to go gather some info for here, on
the Book trade that spawned all these computer-fantasy RPG's..

#33 of 84 by phreakus on Mon Feb 27 18:05:29 1995:

&th saga is hard. In one area I found myself repeatedly trying to get from
one town to another without getting hosed in the process.

#34 of 84 by seveners on Mon Feb 27 21:23:45 1995:

Great! I'll have to try it.

#35 of 84 by phreakus on Sat Mar 4 19:06:59 1995:

May you die well.

#36 of 84 by seveners on Sun Mar 5 15:11:58 1995:

Thanks, I think?!?

#37 of 84 by plork on Fri Mar 10 14:32:57 1995:

Yup....

#38 of 84 by seveners on Thu Mar 16 21:50:16 1995:

Hey, I might be getting a new video game this Easter. It looks like its
either going to be Breath of Fire for SNES or Myst for CD-ROM. Which
do you guys think is a better choice?

#39 of 84 by jsr on Fri Mar 17 13:37:40 1995:

Personally, I'd pick Myst, though I've only watched it being played,
not actually played it myself. Of course, it comparing Myst to
Breath of Fire is kind of like comparing apples to oranges...
