Which are good places to rent cross-country skis? Also, what are the places to go, besides Waterloo Rec. area, near Ann Arbor?

See the Skiing item in Ing, for more discussion on the art and science of skiing. (Of course, it's a fairly new item, so there isn't much there yet.)
Add something, skiers. The most *local* xcntry skiing with rentals is the golf course on Huron Parkway at the Huron River. Pretty tame, but great for beginners. Waterloo is more challenging. We've also been up to State area just west of Beck Rd (west of Northville), on 8 mile Rd - but we haven't been there for some time now.
Huron Medows is a bit nicer. More woods and longer, more interesting trails. Wildernes Outfitters also rent them, or they use to. Radric Farms is also good skiing when there is enough snow.
Item 25 in nature is now 28 in ing, just because it's convenient
While I'm at it, for a bit of drift, where are the good local places to go toboganning? (Ones that rent sleds.)
One of my favorite places to ski is Saginaw Forest. It is on Liberty about 1/2 mile west of Wagner Road (on the north side). It is owned by UM and there is no parking at the gate on Liberty, but if it is a weekend you can park in the lot about 1/4 mi. east of the gate and carry your skis to the gate. You do need skis of course, there are no ski rentals, it is just a forest. It's not overly challenging. It's beautiful and there is a lake (3rd sister, I believe). When the lake is frozen (which it is NOT right now) you can ski across. You can skiaround to the other side of the lake whenever there's snow. For more difficult skiing that's still not too far, try another UM forest - Stinchfield woods. It's on Peach mountain, which is where the WUOM antenna is. That is, on North Territorial just west of Dexter-Pinckney road. Parking there can be difficult - you have to park in a lot nearby and walk a bit. The skiing is great, but can get steep. It's not for beginners. -srw
I like the Radrick Farms golf course on Geddes. Not the fairways, but the woods. There are very beautiful trails, winding streams... it's quite lovely. Unlike the golf, it seems to be open to anyone who wants to ski, and you can park in the parking lot.
I like Radrick Farms also. YOu used to be able to rent skis there, and get hot chocolate, but that building hasn't been open in a few years (at least not when I've been there."
We should plan a Grexpedition for x-c, shouldn't we?
