Grex Mud Item 4: Help me

Okay, I know nothing about MUD's. I have a huge list of MUD's and
I can get to them, but then I don
't know what to do. Can you guys help me out. How do you mud?
What are the commands? What are the best ones?

Ok peacfrg.  Describing muds is WAY too hard.  What I suggest is that
you telnet to gizmo.bchs.uh.edu 6969 sometime when you have an hour
or so to spare.  It uses all the basic commands and i'm in a position 
to spend some time helping you there.  Just log on.  You'll need to
create a character (just try logging in with a name you want for a character,
the create it).  When you get on, type  gos is aphrael here?  If i'm on, I'll
come help you.

To find out commands on a MUD help is a good one to start with..
A MUD is basically a place where you control a person and go around mercilessly
slaughtering innocents and solving puzzles and quests for XP..this you can
spend to advance your characters skills/attributes. Another good way is to ask
some of the usually friendly people founf on the MUDs tyry using tell <name>
<Whatever you want to ask them> This tends to work on most MUDS as does typing
who or wizlist to find out which players are on..(Try to ask the higher level
players they are more likely to know...but warning... DONY ASK STUID QUESTIONS
AND CHECK THE HELP FILES BEFORE YOU GO BOTHERING!!! It's very annoying to tell
a simple thing 40 times when there is a help file on it :) Anyway for more info
type join autumn and read the article about a musdsite being wanted..(Its about
116 I think :) )

I do agree about asking help on muds to higher levels, maybe I can suggest you
trying cyberspace.com 4000 if you can get to it... It's a high level mud with
lots of high levels willing to help newbies beleve me I know... you can ask me
to help you when you get there I'll be threre as SunGoku.

play sevrel muds would suggest relms of imagneatoin firey as just 2 really
good ones telnet jitter.rahul. 4000 is imageation lms

good luck getting help...try hub.eden.com 1029, and read the help files, they
are pretty general..  look for cabbage on there, i will help you.

Zmud is a client program that will help you set up specialized routines and
programs for greater mud enjoyment.

It works *with* your mud-- you use it instead of telnet.

Can anyone add to this?  I'm too tired to explain it in more detail..

telnet is a program to connect to the mud.  But telnet is very "basic" and
isn't really easy to use if you're not used to it.  At least i don't think
it is.  So ppl have develloped other programs to connect to a mud with in
stead of telnet.  Zmud is one of those programs.  Specially designed to use
for playing muds.  You will find it is much more easy to use, and that it has
some features that will come in handy that you don't have in telnet.

I must admit, ZMud is a bit complicated, even for me, and I've done quite
a bit of mudding. Of course it's very good, but I've had trouble with 
proxy support and such things.
Basically, if you are new to mudding I would probably recommend GMud,
though ZMud is good if you can work it out.
