Here's the other side of the coin: What ideas should we steal from Grex?

I like the way they're handling word wrap, and the ability to backspace onto the previous line. I like that a lot. Is that just a matter of setting defaults differently, or can we not do it at all under YAPP?

However, gate works just fine on m-net. It is set as my default editor and I use it in YAPP
I think we should steal some of their money. And, I think we should pass out shit at Top Of the Park. Hell, I'm even going to venture out to Ann Arbor for TOP.
I think we should steal some of their intelligent conversation, it seems to mix well with Mnet's idiocy. Basically, having Mnetters on grex has been like having a good meal with lots of veggies (grex) followed by a glorious banana split (mnet) for dessert!
"Excuse me sir, there's been a printer's error with that refrigerator magnet you just received. I'd like to give you the correct address . . . "
(slynne is still doing that slippy thing, even though she's only a guest here)
Hey yer stealin me from Grex. What more do you need?
Since I have to read grex and mnet via the web, I have a suggestion for Mnet's web browser. When I use the "back" button here on grex, it takes me back to the page exactly as I left it. It even saves text that I put into the text box and forgot to post which happens to me all the time because I am an idiot. That is a feature I would love to see in the Mnet version.
Re #9: We need something to compensate for that, actually.
Re #9: A cf to be named later?
j fagfuck
Ingrates. [sob]
I'd love to see you back on M-Net, Michael. Grex's funding model is superior to that of M-Net. Among other things, they can consistently pay the bills without relying on a few big contributors to fill in for shortfalls and special needs.
It's funny how the only defense Grexers can conjure up is "We have more money". Yes, you have more money. Now, go get your backpack and play with the other Grexers, dear.
I know. It's dumb. M-net has so much more character. I read Agora and got bored to shit.
i suppose that is why a lot of people read the newspaper when they take a shit
Well, according to k8's first financial report, we have $1408.56 in the bank. That's over 5 months' worth of typical expenses.
they can't help it. they get that way from eating twigs and crushed leaves which fall from above whilst they be's hugging dem trees, don'tchaknow. i stood on my brakes while revving up my suv to the redline, then slammed down hard on the accelerator. wow, what power, what noise, what great skid marks i left in the pavement. bonus: i almost splatted a whole family of ducks near boardwalk and eisenhower. dunno how i missed 'em.
Heh, I'd find it hard to believe you've got a 5000-rpm stall speed torque converter in that gas hog :) Speaking of which, my dad's car died, or more aptly, the transmission died. it ground, screeched, slammed and *absofuckinglootely stunk* and the repair bill was $2184.
re #16: Did you mean me? I'm much more of an M-Netter than a Grexer, for all that I kind of like Grex better these days.
It's not just that Grex has more money; Grex has more people. Grex has about four times as many users as M-net. This is a striking outcome, given that originally every 1991 Grexer was an M-net user, and that M-net had the advantage in money, network connectivity and system speed until about 1995 or 1996. The systems are located in the same city, and the user interface software is almost identical.
How about the number of people who use the *conferences* in each system, Ken?
re: 23 -- Grex may well have four times as many people as M-Net. It makes no difference at all. Once you weed out the 70% that use Grex for free e-mail and hot chat, you're left with just 5% more than M-Net. And let's be honest...it would take 3 Grexers to be as interesting as one M-Netter. So, in the grand scheme of things, M-Net has way more users.
Heh. Look at all those great "last item" items that have been entered, just in the last few days. M-Net creativity at it's unmatchable finest?
Not the most creative . . .definitely not . . .but that's why god invented the forget command. Imagine what it would be like if chamberl weren't in China.
Re #25: I disagree. The mnet general cf is *stupefyingly* dull. It makes you yawn so hard your jaw hurts. That will all change soon, however. ;-)
The number of conference participants in, say, Agora vs. M-net General, should be an easy number to establish, so there's no point in arguing about it. I was trying to figure out how many M-net conference refugees have turned up as participants here on Grex. I think it's less than 20. Is there any Michigan-area conference participant who has turned up on M-net more recently than pthomas, who came in three years ago?
A couple of folks from the slashdot article. Martin (who donated from England). Probably some others. Stop being so negative ken, it's very un-Grexian, and we *are* guests after all . . . .
"From Michigan..."
You can't really compare agora to general in participant level because of the undoubtedly high number of one time visits that occur each period of 3 months. I'd suggest comparing the participation at the end of one M-Net general conference versus 30 days into any given Agora.
Re: #31: Oops, my bad. Actually, though, why is the distinction of "user from Michigan" of any particular importance? I prefer a nice mix of people from all over.
re: 26 -- The concept isn't creative in and of itself. But the mere fact that such simple (and stupid) items can get Grexers' collective panties in a bunch is pretty amusing.
y'all seem to be protesting way too much. they do there thing (gawdawful dull as it is) and we do ours (our bbs badies are legend - hera anyone?) so be it.
Hey dipshits, I was present at the *creation* of the "last item" concept. I might even have come up with the idea myself. And guess when the first "last item" is gonna be entered in the July general cf on mnet. And guess how many "last items" yer gonna see before I get bored with you morons. We're talkin *years* here.
this comes as no great surprise. we're used to abject cases of arrested development.
No shit.
We are DEVO!
