Okay, so I've finished shutting down services, and I'm completing the
sync of the filesystem (I hope). It's running slower than I'd hoped, so
I'm hoping it'll be done by the time they pull the plug...

I'll update again when I've gotten further, but it should be done
sometime tonight.

#2 of 45 by furs on Mon Nov 19 22:56:15 2007:

thanks so much tony for all your work. :)

#3 of 45 by tonster on Tue Nov 20 00:01:18 2007:

Well it's on /var/mail now and I haven't lost access yet. With any luck
I've got time, but if not I should have enough. I suppose it hasn't
sync'd /var/www, so I'll manually get that sync'd real quick. It's
progressing...

#4 of 45 by tonster on Tue Nov 20 00:15:19 2007:

ok everything except /var/mail is now copied. I'm going to let that
keep running until we're out of time. I don't really think it's that
important, considering mail has been shutoff for most of the system for
some time. If we need anything, we'll get it later. I'll start
bringing some stuff back up in a bit.

#5 of 45 by tonster on Tue Nov 20 03:40:19 2007:

Ok, all the sync's are done now and the old box is ready to be shut
down. I'm about done with what I can accomplish for tonight though, so
it'll be tomorrow morning before I get apache online. I'll post more
then.

#6 of 45 by tonster on Tue Nov 20 16:11:33 2007:

I'm having some trouble with YAPP, and so I'm trying to get ahold of
Thaler. In the meantime, I'll see if I can't get backtalk running for
now. Things are progressing, albeit slower than I'd hoped...

#7 of 45 by tsty on Wed Nov 21 07:47:54 2007:

tonstrer you are doing a greate' gjob ... for one (of many) i thank you.

#8 of 45 by tonster on Wed Nov 21 18:11:21 2007:

thanks tsty.

I've got apache running finally, had some problems with php. if people
want to play around on the website and point out what is broken there,
that would help. I know cgi scripts aren't working, and I'm going to
need to migrate some other configs from our old system since I wasn't
sure how we compiled apache before, what options we used, so I ended up
just using apache 1.3 from ports.

Someone, namely tonster, is getting cookies from me for Christmas.
Yes indeedy.

#10 of 45 by tonster on Wed Nov 21 18:54:00 2007:

Okay, I'm working on apache and should have it up soon, then I should be
able to get backtalk up pretty quickly. I just heard back from Kaylene,
who is going to try to help me work through the YAPP issues I'm having.

#11 of 45 by nharmon on Wed Nov 21 18:55:36 2007:

Go Tony, Go!

#12 of 45 by lar on Wed Nov 21 19:39:31 2007:

I'm ready for my m-net fix bayyybe!

#13 of 45 by furs on Wed Nov 21 19:43:25 2007:

tony, you rule.

#14 of 45 by tonster on Wed Nov 21 19:50:14 2007:

Okay, apache should be all set now. Everything but backtalk is now
running. If anyone notices anything broken, please let me know. I'll
get backtalk up shortly.

Kaylene is also almost done fixing bbs, so we should have that working
soon too.

eek, slippage.

resp:11: I'm going, I'm going!

resp:12: stay tuned.

resp:13: I know. :)

#15 of 45 by tonster on Wed Nov 21 21:15:14 2007:

I hope to have backtalk back up in the next hour or so. I've changed
DNS, so you can watch for it to start working soon. Shell access is
going to take a little more time. When working with Kaylene I noticed a
few other things that haven't been completed that I want to complete
before opening it up again. YAPP is working again, though. So we're
almost there.

#16 of 45 by furs on Wed Nov 21 22:13:28 2007:

You've not let anyone on yet though, right?

#17 of 45 by tonster on Wed Nov 21 22:35:30 2007:

not yet.

#18 of 45 by nharmon on Thu Nov 22 01:18:58 2007:

We're all standing in line outside shivering trying to keep warm waiting
for Tonster to walk up and unlock the doors.

#19 of 45 by furs on Thu Nov 22 01:25:49 2007:

hahahaha

#20 of 45 by tonster on Thu Nov 22 01:27:37 2007:

resp:18: want a blanket or something?

#21 of 45 by nharmon on Thu Nov 22 01:31:28 2007:

I'm good. :)

#22 of 45 by tonster on Thu Nov 22 02:21:15 2007:

I've opened up mnet to the public. Backtalk remains down. I've emailed
Jan in hopes he can help me figure out the problem with compiling it.
Please let me know in the november system problems item any problems you
encounter, and note http://m-net.arbornet.org/newmnet.php for things
we're still working on.

#23 of 45 by lar on Thu Nov 22 08:01:35 2007:

nharmon is funny.

Thanks tonster...you rock.

#24 of 45 by lowclass on Thu Nov 22 17:07:01 2007:

!party works to get you into party, but the party menu option for party is
broke. THanks for your time and efforts.

#25 of 45 by tonster on Fri Nov 23 02:49:46 2007:

hm. what's the party menu option? I don't know a lot about the menu
system, but I can look into it...

#26 of 45 by lowclass on Sat Nov 24 00:56:52 2007:

Basiclty, it's the P (for Party) option on the party submenu. I'm assuming
it will clear up, when you fix the same fault, from the party submeny for who.
OR pwho. THe "!who" option works well enough to get bye.

(I'm surpriseed I still Know some of the "!" commands seeing as I never
ever use them.)

#27 of 45 by tonster on Sat Nov 24 03:49:21 2007:

pwho is fixed now. is it still broken in the menu?

#28 of 45 by lar on Sat Nov 24 12:00:14 2007:

How long before backtalk will be up, tonster? Is it something only janc
can fix?

#29 of 45 by tonster on Sat Nov 24 16:37:00 2007:

yes, I think I need janc. I can't make anything out of the errors I get
trying to compile it. Google has turned up nothing. I'll try and look
more into it Monday if I haven't heard back from Jan yet.

#30 of 45 by nharmon on Sat Nov 24 17:10:29 2007:

This response has been erased.

#31 of 45 by nharmon on Sat Nov 24 17:12:01 2007:

I'm having trouble logging into m-net because it doesn't have zsh
installed. :P

#32 of 45 by tonster on Sat Nov 24 21:47:01 2007:

zsh has been installed.

#33 of 45 by lowclass on Sat Nov 24 23:11:55 2007:

THe "who" option in the party sub-menu works now. THe "P" option to join
party IN the Party sub-menu does not. !party works just fine to join party.

#34 of 45 by nharmon on Sun Nov 25 12:13:06 2007:

Thanks Tony, but I still can't login. I think it has to do with the old
system having zsh located in /bin/zsh and the new has it in
/usr/local/bin/zsh. And my passwd entry probably lists /bin/zsh as my
login shell.

#35 of 45 by tonster on Sun Nov 25 14:12:12 2007:

ok...I've symlinked zsh to /bin...try again...

#36 of 45 by nharmon on Sun Nov 25 14:55:39 2007:

It works now. Thanks for your help Tony!

#37 of 45 by tonster on Sun Nov 25 15:55:06 2007:

:)

#38 of 45 by cross on Sun Dec 2 18:59:30 2007:

Hey, ask the Thaler's if they'll just oensource YAPP?

#39 of 45 by tsty on Sat Jul 12 10:59:01 2008:

as much as i appreciate the options in picospan, yapp has some
really nice additional features i would like to see on grex.

hope i'm not stomping on anyone's ego.

chances of seeing yapp running on grex?
