This is the item where I'll provide updates on getting the new M-Net box up and running.

Okay, so I've finished shutting down services, and I'm completing the sync of the filesystem (I hope). It's running slower than I'd hoped, so I'm hoping it'll be done by the time they pull the plug... I'll update again when I've gotten further, but it should be done sometime tonight.
thanks so much tony for all your work. :)
Well it's on /var/mail now and I haven't lost access yet. With any luck I've got time, but if not I should have enough. I suppose it hasn't sync'd /var/www, so I'll manually get that sync'd real quick. It's progressing...
ok everything except /var/mail is now copied. I'm going to let that keep running until we're out of time. I don't really think it's that important, considering mail has been shutoff for most of the system for some time. If we need anything, we'll get it later. I'll start bringing some stuff back up in a bit.
Ok, all the sync's are done now and the old box is ready to be shut down. I'm about done with what I can accomplish for tonight though, so it'll be tomorrow morning before I get apache online. I'll post more then.
I'm having some trouble with YAPP, and so I'm trying to get ahold of Thaler. In the meantime, I'll see if I can't get backtalk running for now. Things are progressing, albeit slower than I'd hoped...
tonstrer you are doing a greate' gjob ... for one (of many) i thank you.
thanks tsty. I've got apache running finally, had some problems with php. if people want to play around on the website and point out what is broken there, that would help. I know cgi scripts aren't working, and I'm going to need to migrate some other configs from our old system since I wasn't sure how we compiled apache before, what options we used, so I ended up just using apache 1.3 from ports.
Someone, namely tonster, is getting cookies from me for Christmas. Yes indeedy.
Okay, I'm working on apache and should have it up soon, then I should be able to get backtalk up pretty quickly. I just heard back from Kaylene, who is going to try to help me work through the YAPP issues I'm having.
Go Tony, Go!
I'm ready for my m-net fix bayyybe!
tony, you rule.
Okay, apache should be all set now. Everything but backtalk is now running. If anyone notices anything broken, please let me know. I'll get backtalk up shortly. Kaylene is also almost done fixing bbs, so we should have that working soon too. eek, slippage. resp:11: I'm going, I'm going! resp:12: stay tuned. resp:13: I know. :)
I hope to have backtalk back up in the next hour or so. I've changed DNS, so you can watch for it to start working soon. Shell access is going to take a little more time. When working with Kaylene I noticed a few other things that haven't been completed that I want to complete before opening it up again. YAPP is working again, though. So we're almost there.
You've not let anyone on yet though, right?
not yet.
We're all standing in line outside shivering trying to keep warm waiting for Tonster to walk up and unlock the doors.
hahahaha
resp:18: want a blanket or something?
I'm good. :)
I've opened up mnet to the public. Backtalk remains down. I've emailed Jan in hopes he can help me figure out the problem with compiling it. Please let me know in the november system problems item any problems you encounter, and note http://m-net.arbornet.org/newmnet.php for things we're still working on.
nharmon is funny. Thanks tonster...you rock.
!party works to get you into party, but the party menu option for party is broke. THanks for your time and efforts.
hm. what's the party menu option? I don't know a lot about the menu system, but I can look into it...
Basiclty, it's the P (for Party) option on the party submenu. I'm assuming
it will clear up, when you fix the same fault, from the party submeny for who.
OR pwho. THe "!who" option works well enough to get bye.
(I'm surpriseed I still Know some of the "!" commands seeing as I never
ever use them.)
pwho is fixed now. is it still broken in the menu?
How long before backtalk will be up, tonster? Is it something only janc can fix?
yes, I think I need janc. I can't make anything out of the errors I get trying to compile it. Google has turned up nothing. I'll try and look more into it Monday if I haven't heard back from Jan yet.
This response has been erased.
I'm having trouble logging into m-net because it doesn't have zsh installed. :P
zsh has been installed.
THe "who" option in the party sub-menu works now. THe "P" option to join party IN the Party sub-menu does not. !party works just fine to join party.
Thanks Tony, but I still can't login. I think it has to do with the old system having zsh located in /bin/zsh and the new has it in /usr/local/bin/zsh. And my passwd entry probably lists /bin/zsh as my login shell.
ok...I've symlinked zsh to /bin...try again...
It works now. Thanks for your help Tony!
:)
Hey, ask the Thaler's if they'll just oensource YAPP?
as much as i appreciate the options in picospan, yapp has some really nice additional features i would like to see on grex. hope i'm not stomping on anyone's ego. chances of seeing yapp running on grex?
