Hi, I'm looking for an external 2400 baud modem so I can get e-mail access for a Mac SE I just bought for my mother. The drivers have to be able to be insalled on 800K floppy disks and I would like it to be cheap like 20 or under. Thanks in advance for any help.

You won't need any drivers for an SE. Just a comm program. I'll be putting in a bid on some computer equipment tomorrow. There are a few 14.4 and slower modems in the bid pile. I'll let you know if i wind up with a modem you can have for cheap.
Cool beans!! I haven't used a Mac since 1995 so I don't know what they require for drivers and whatnot. As long as the modem has a power supply and a cable to cnnect to the computer and it's under 20 (hopefully under 10) I'm there. After all I only payed 15 for the CPU keyboard and mouse at property dispo today. Also if you have a copy of z-term or some other comm sharware I could stick on a floppy that would be fab.
I don't know if I can get a cable... These modems were connected to PCs. Comm software should not be a problem. ZTerm is what I'm using now (on a Mac SE and a 14.4 modem, BTW) Price will be less than $10, else I won't get them.
Update my mom got a mac performa so I'll need at least 14,400 & preferbly 28,800 for surfing the web. i may end up just biting the bullet and going to computer Renaisence if I don't hear from you tomorrow. Thanks for showing interest.
I'm still not sure what I got at this auction... I did get a few 14.4's, however. I'll be looking for about $7 each, sans cable.
I ended up getting a 56,600 external for my mom for 50 bucks. Now she's surfing the net faster than me.
Klaus, put me down for a 14.4 modem. Probably I can make the exchange thru Jan/Valerie?
Anyone have a copy of micropne lt so I can update the "firmware" to v90 on this 56,600 kflex modem?
OK. I have the following modems: One Zoom FAX modem. 14.4 data, 14.4 Fax, External, adapter but no manual or disk. $7. One Zoom 14.4 external modem missing a (standard) 9 vac adapter. $5. One Hayes Optima 14.4 external modem missing the the 9 vac adapter. $5. I have not checked them out but will before selling them. The missing 9 vac adapters may be scrounged from older modems you have kicking around. 9vac is pretty common for modems.]
Kiwanis has 9V AC adapters for $5, and if we need any 'fast' modems we will contact you, Klaus. We got in one 28.8 already, and will be setting up machines to run Netscape, which will work with 14.4.
