Grex Micros Item 102: GateWay 2000-what there secret
Entered by matts on Tue Jul 12 14:11:08 UTC 1994:

has any one looked at gateway 200's new prices? I have to admyMit, they are
really cheap. almost as cheap as teh stuff in teh back of
compputere
shopper. I would assume they are using some pretty cheap parts. ANy
one heard anything about problems with teh systems. If not, I feel a
monopoly on the rise.

Those CrystalScan monitors really bite at high resolutions, and
sometimes even at the lowest (fuzziness). Lots of people on Usenet
complain about them and won't buy a Gateway for just that reason.

Their tech support gets criticized, also, though I believe they've
taken measures to improve it (they got way behind due to their
growth).

Can anyone confirm that they use Micronics motherboards?

We have Gateway monitors at work, and they really suck.
Not only are they fuzzy, but they're dim and the colors are dull.
I have heard that they have a new line of better monitors, but I
have not seen one.

Yeah, I should say that my experiences with Gateway monitors are
with the "standard" model they ship (CrystalScan 1024). I've heard
they have other, better/good, models, but you have to ask for them
(and probably pay more).

Gateway has been cutting a lot of corners recently. The other reason their
prices are so cheap is sheer volume.
