Dunno how I put this in language, but oh well.

#2 of 39 by mta on Thu Aug 5 07:06:23 1993:

Hurrah! Another Katie-fest!

        *grin*

#3 of 39 by glenda on Thu Aug 5 13:26:12 1993:

Katie, it is so wonderful of you to plan our 11th wedding anniversary for
us. I was getting a headache trying to figure out something special to do
for it. :-)

#4 of 39 by redwood on Thu Aug 5 14:56:59 1993:

Sorry, I'll be out of town and not able to make this event.

Re #1:
<shrug> It's an anomalous item. It stays.

#6 of 39 by tnt on Fri Aug 6 04:53:27 1993:

Would the pony consent to rides? How can you be sure that the consent wasn't
given under duress?
Even if the pony is generally amnenable, is their a maximum
        weight-limit
in effect for potential riders? What if fat people above the weight limit
protest?

#7 of 39 by aa8ij on Fri Aug 6 05:50:32 1993:

don't worry Tim, I have not ridden a horse in some 15 yrs. And I don't
care to ever again.

#6: In these Politically Correct times, I do think we have to re-evaluate our
wanton usage of animals for our silly pleasures. If it were not for the
genetic brainwashing of domesticated horses, I don't think horses would
consent to another creature riding on their backs -- for fun, no less.
I think the Politically Correct term is "Specism", a term akin to
"racism" and "sexism". We should not set lower standards and rights for
other creatures just because they're of another specie.

#9 of 39 by aa8ij on Fri Aug 6 19:47:49 1993:

I'ts not genes, jemmie, Horses are broken and tamed.

#10 of 39 by steve on Fri Aug 6 23:21:59 1993:

Katie, what do you think about someone riding with Staci? I know
she'd *love* to have a horse ride.

#11 of 39 by mta on Fri Aug 6 23:56:53 1993:

Don't worry, Tim. We fat people can be quite reasonable on occasion.
We've even been known to attend entire parties in large numbers and
*still* not hurt anyone, human or otherwise. :)

#12 of 39 by katie on Sat Aug 7 00:49:16 1993:

I would lead Staci around.

#13 of 39 by katie on Sat Aug 7 00:49:37 1993:

Well, I'd lead the horse around. Staci can sit on top.

#14 of 39 by davel on Sat Aug 7 01:02:11 1993:

Re #11: thin people are just as much bad news for ants, microbes, and
whatnot, for that matter.

#15 of 39 by katie on Sat Aug 21 01:19:59 1993:

I'd like to make the start time for the Pico earlier, so we have a few
hours of daylight for volleyball and stuff. How bout 4:30-5ish?

#16 of 39 by remmers on Sat Aug 21 11:23:11 1993:

Sounds yummy to me.

#17 of 39 by hope on Sun Aug 22 20:57:16 1993:

Well, it looks like David and I *will* be able to make this one, hooray!
See you there, with bells on. ;)

#18 of 39 by katie on Sun Aug 22 22:35:44 1993:

Cool!

#19 of 39 by hope on Sun Aug 22 23:24:13 1993:

Thanks. :) Is this the standard "bring-a-dish" format?

#20 of 39 by aa8ij on Mon Aug 23 01:23:51 1993:

I need a lift, and I will bring the pictures that I took at the
M-net party. Although I am considering selling the one that I took of
Laurel.
 ;)

#21 of 39 by jared on Mon Aug 23 01:41:48 1993:

re 20
<grin>

#22 of 39 by katie on Mon Aug 23 14:44:17 1993:

Yep, bring a dish. (That refers to hope's response, not to aa8ij's.)

#23 of 39 by aa8ij on Mon Aug 23 20:56:50 1993:

I was thinking about bringing muffins once again.

#24 of 39 by jared on Mon Aug 23 21:28:59 1993:

I can't come.

#25 of 39 by hope on Wed Aug 25 18:33:15 1993:

David and I will come with Sin in tow. For those of you the uninitiated,
Sin is a wonderful brownie-cookie pan thing that really needs to be
tasted to be understood....

#26 of 39 by aa8ij on Wed Aug 25 19:18:05 1993:

I trust that you will be posting the recipe.

#27 of 39 by hope on Thu Aug 26 00:55:15 1993:

Oh, it's pathetically simple, but that'd be up to him. I don't want to
reveal his secrets. ;)

#28 of 39 by redwood on Thu Aug 26 02:44:57 1993:

My apologies. I'll be at a wedding this weekend. Otherwise, I'd love to be
there.

While we are still hoping to attend, it is being to look more and more like
we won't be able to manage it. We still have a lot of stuff to move out of
Dewey into storage and the whole place to clean and wash. Just what I love
another anniversary where we will be working so hard that we will probably
forget that it is our anniversary :-). Guess I'll go tell the kids right
now, they won't let us forget.

#31 of 39 by gregc on Thu Aug 26 20:41:06 1993:

Glenda, something to keep in mind: Michigan rental laws prevent a landlord
from keeping your security deposit because of dirt or uncleanlyness. Unless
he *also* kept a separate and explicit *cleaning* deposit, any deposit
kept is considered a *damage* deposit and dirt does not equal damage under
Michigan law. Damage is considered to be "wear and tear inflicted upon the
domicle, above and beyond what would be considered normal wear and tear
from the simple act of occupying the residence."

Also, be sure that you send your old landlord your new address, *in writing*
within 4 days of day that you are officially no longer renting the old house.
This is the first step that you have to do to protect yourself in case the
old landlord gets squirrly with your deposit.

#32 of 39 by srw on Fri Aug 27 00:28:44 1993:

I don't know about your lease, Glenda, but the standard U of M lease
(which is used by a lot of landlords) requires tenants to return the
unit to the landlord in the same condition as when taken, cleanliness
included. (see item 17) So despite the correctness of gregc's comments,
you are on the right track.

#33 of 39 by gregc on Fri Aug 27 11:03:03 1993:

2 Things Steve:
1.) I was not implying that Glenda should return the house without doing any
cleaning. But, they also don't need to go overboard on the cleaning. I
and other people I've known, have had landlords who demanded that every
speck of dirt be removed before I moved out, or he was going to keep
part of the security deposit for cleaning. Keeping security deposit
money for cleaning is not legal. period.
2.) Under Michigan law, if a lease contains a clause that violates, or seems
to request that you sign away one of your rights under Michigan law, then
that clause is unenforcable. Your landlord cannot re-write Michigan Law
with a lease. So you are free to sign the lease and then ignore that
clause if you so choose. So, I would bet that, if somebody pressed it,
that clause in the UofM lease is probably unenforcable too. I'm betting
they put it in because they figured most college students wouldn't
understand this aspect of renter law, or would be headed out of town
    and wouldn't press the matter.

I'd love to attend, but it's quite a drive -- especially when one
doesn't have a car.

Happy anniversary to the Andres, too.

#36 of 39 by chelsea on Sun Aug 29 17:48:31 1993:

Wow, what a nice time. You're place looks great, the horses
are really beautiful animals, Harley made it, Carl's wife
knows how to make a fantastic sandwich, the volleyball court
is amazing! We had to leave a little early in order to join
some friends at the Bird of Paradise but the picnic was
very nice indeed. Thanks for hosting, Katie.

#37 of 39 by mta on Sun Aug 29 18:26:07 1993:

My family all went together and we had a fabulous time! The sing-along
was my favorite part. Elfrey and Katie both have lovely voices.

#38 of 39 by remmers on Sun Aug 29 18:58:23 1993:

Oh foo. We left before the sing-along.

#39 of 39 by jep on Thu Sep 2 02:17:17 1993:

I missed almost the entire sing-along, which was fortunate because
I yelled my voice out on the volleyball court. That's all right, I like
volleyball better than singing, anyway. I *do* volleyball better than
singing. I also do nuclear physics better than I do singing, but that's
another story.
I did sit and listen to Katie's annual impression of Judy Garland
singing "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" (yes, I know Judy never sang
this song, but if she did she would have sounded like Katie, except maybe
not as good -- yes, this is a rave), or my year wouldn't have been
complete.
