This is a word game. I am thinking of a five letter word. You guess a five letter word, and I tell you how many letter matches (in both letter and place) there are. For example, if my secret word were <color>, and you guessed <bosom>, I would answer *2*. This game is marvelous for long car rides with several people. Each guesser takes turns, and the one that finally guesses the word, then chooses a new secret word. It is guaranteed to keep the driver awake! As a car game, no records can be kept, so you must remember the words that have been guessed, and the responses - which isn't so easy! Here, the game should go much faster. However we must have a rule that no one may make two consecutive guesses. In addition, things would go rather slowly if everyone would have to wait for me to respond to one word at a time. Therefore the game has to be adapted to a computer conference. Let's try it out that *five* (5) persons may offer guesses, and then things must hold until I sign on again, and give the responses to those five words. We can decide later if this number should be modified, or other adaptations made for Grex Letter Match. OK - Let's Go!

I thought you were waiting for 5?
(No, after people enter 5, they're supposed to wait for *him*.)

The rule was that no one could make two consecutive guesses. That was to rule out a long list from one person, and also to increase the "competitive tension". However, if no one else is playing.....I'l respond on this one, but ask that the rule be followed (drag a friend into the game). laugh 1

(If we know one letter, do we tell? Or are we competing among ourselves as well as with you?) grace
width 1 grace 1 You are competing among yourselves, so don't announce a letter that (you think ;->) you know. Of course, in the travelling version, the "guessers" get absolutely apoplectic, waiting for their next turn (everyone goes "in order"). I will also not confirm a letter - even by mail. In regard to an implied question, you are not competing against me, since I can't "win" - but I do have to check letter orders and this is what keeps the driver awake if he/she is the word proposer. Of course, you know you have the word, when my answer is "5"!

That's a 5. Congrats, davel. Normally, the winner is the proposer of
the next word. Do you want to continue, Dave?
Cool. That was my next guess. I think davel and I are using the same method.
Pretty obviously so, after a point. When you said you knew one I caught myself up & knew two, & also noted your strategy. Hm. I may or may not be able to check in as often as Rane, & I will also create a file of the same sort. If there are any special rules on word selection, it's too late now.

Um, did davel say he had a word in mind? Is it always 5 letters?
Yes, I have a word in mind. Since Rane said 5 letters, I stuck with 5. Would I be clever enough to pick something different by only one letter from the last? For the record: flume: 1 (robh)
