Has anyone else tried Emu meat yet? I got a taste of it the other day at a "Food Tasting" at a local butcher shop. It looks and tastes a lot like beef. I plan to try cooking some soon. I don't know if the local farm here will ship to other states, but their number is 401-846-9396. It's called Black Point Emu Farm run by Timothy and JoAnne Harvey. Emu is very low in fat, and much healthier than beef (so they say).

(I'd rather eat at Um.)
(carson has obviously never eaten at East Quad.)
re #2: Actually, I've eaten at both South and East Quads,
although it was several years ago that I did this.
re #0: Whereabouts is the farm?
(I ate at East Quad for close to 4 years. Dunno how anyone survives eating in that place. Yucch!)
(I ate at East Quad for 2 years and barely survived. Anonymous gray meat and lumpy mashed potatoes. Oh, and then there was that "city chicken". Yummy --NOT!)
(You lived at East Quad?!!!! Wowza!)
UM has been around for a long time, Valerie!
I lived in East Quad 1963-65. Dunno how much it's changed since then...
Last time I sneaked in, it looked pretty much identical to when I'd lived there, in 1983-87. Was it co-ed when you lived there?
Amazing! To think that I once lived in the same dorm (1985-1988) as the great Remmers!
And to think I lived in the same dorm as the once and future Robh! East Quad was 100% male when I lived there, except for the housemothers.
I'm suprised that John would condone & apparently support a blatantly sexist housing policy!
This was 1964. Sexism hadn't been invented yet.
Re 11: Ok, then that's a big change between when you lived there and when I did. When I lived there, half the men's bathrooms had been converted into women's-bathrooms-with-urinals.
(How'd we end up talking about East Quad urinals in the kitchen conference?!) :) :) :)
Easy segue from East Quad food, I guess.
Evolution? Actually, it is because some of you have dirty mouths, and claim that the East Quad dorm food was sickening. If you were going to be sick, I'd hope that you would do so in the bathroom (although not in a urinal).
Actually THE worst food can be found at U hospital. Fortunatly, sick folks don't have much alternative, and since they're already sick, who cares?
It wasn't that the food is bad there, Jim, it is just that they made you eat nutritous meals for a change.
I lived at EQ for 2 years too -- 81-83.
Hey wow! I visited EQ for a weekend, once, while you lived there. Small world!!
i just had ostrich meat at "the bite of seattle" this past weekend. that is a LOT like beef too.. and i assume ostrich and emu are similar. they also had a booth called "alligator on a stick" but i didnt make it over there. buffalo is ok, a bit sweeter than beef. elk and venison are far too gamey for my tastes.
Igor, so where are we going to meet you for dinner this weekend. Lunch would be okay too. Somewhere where they serve good seafood, maybe?
(Just for the record, I've never lived in East Quad.)
(You're one of the few...)
food, this weekend? are you in seattle? <marc and i JUST got our wisdom teeth out, so we cant eat solid or spicy food. actually, we arent even supposed to drive, because of the 'happy pills' we are taking> so, you really are here in seattle? i didnt see this until friday.. where?
