Grex Kitchen Item 82: New Beverage!
Entered by orinoco on Fri Aug 26 17:51:11 UTC 1994:

Just tried something interesting.
Put 1 cup of milk, 1-2 tbs. of coffee cristals <sp?>
A dash of cinnamon, some cayenne pepper, and a little
maple syrup or chocolate syrup in a mug.
Put it in the microwave on high, or steam using your
cappucino maker.
Tastes not at all like coffee, rather like warm milk or
hot coacoa with a slightly bitter and spicy aftertaste.
Try it!

You need to give this stuff a name!

it has a name. It's called mexican cocoa. If you read The Frugal
Gourmet cooks american, he goes over lots of varieties of cocoa.

originally it was made by incans, and not at all sweet (like we think of
it now).

hmmm, perhaps i'd drop the cayenne pepper .... and i already use
a chocolate syrup in my morning brew, but the extra-high proportion
of milk turns coffee into a wholly different beverage.

I didn't know it already had a name.
Try adding cinnamon or almond extract
Also, try using other sweeteners.
Just a little bit of cayenne, tsty, too much makes your brain fall
through the roof of your mouth.
Bittersweet chocolate might be better than
chocolate syrup--i'd have to try it...
