Grex Kitchen Item 55: GOOD STUFF
Entered by tatiana on Wed Oct 20 00:59:40 UTC 1993:

The Amazingly Bad For You But God Probably Eats The Same Thing Item

Well, the new issue of Chocolatier's come in, and usual Pavlovian reaction
occurred. As far as I'm concerned most good food comes in two categories-
chocolate, and maybe not quite so much chocolate. Favorite vices, anyone?
I'm a sucker for chocolate peanut butter glaze with...whatever. Potato chips,
pretzels, graham crackers. How about you?

I am quite discerning when it comes to chocolate. I prefer Ghihardelli's
over Nestle or Hershey's.

Chocolate covered potato chips... that's the answer!!!

Chocolate Decadence! Ah, it's terrible for you, but you'll die happy.

#3 of 30 by remmers on Thu Oct 21 10:27:21 1993:

I'm a sucker for munchies like pretzels, chocolate chip cookies,
crackers. Feel guilty every time I indulge, though, living as I
do in this nutrition-conscious, heart-smart era.

Is it okay to feel guilty, or should I feel guilty about feeling guilty?

I had a dessert called Death By Chocolate one time. Was very good, however
I'm still here.

I have just recieved Neiman's Christmas flyer which has lots of yummy
looking chocolate in it. Just wish I could afford it. ;-)

Hot Fudge Sundaes with walnuts and whipped cream. The ice cream: one scoop
of mocha chip and one of some carmelly thing. To die for!

#7 of 30 by popcorn on Sat Oct 23 13:25:29 1993:

No no! Double chocolate ice cream or chocolate fudge brownie ice cream,
with hot fudge and maybe chocolate chips or chocolate sprinkles on top.
Mmmm! Don't adulterate the pure chocolateness of this by adding nuts
or whipped cream or bananas, though. Chocolate pig-out heaven! Mmmm!

I like chicken in mole sauce (pronounced moh-lay), a mexican variety that
is heavy on the chocolate, though not at all sweet.

#9 of 30 by danr on Sat Oct 23 23:22:47 1993:

I like the chocolate cheescake at Zing's.

#10 of 30 by aa8ij on Sun Oct 24 20:41:37 1993:

Sanders has this Hot Fudge sauce which is pure decadence, which is one
of the main reasons I would never consider leaving Michigan. Heated, and
put over fresh London's (from PorHuron) French Vanilla ice cream is
almost like being in heaven.

a cold Vernorsis also a treat, but even better when cream is added.

I always love the Candy`s Fantasy at Silverman's, with crushed Oreos and
Crunch bars. There`s my price if anyone wants my soul.

<abchan recalls the concoctions fireball made in college that they'd eat, much
to the disgust of the rest of their friends>

Anything but plain cheesecake is blasphemy!!
B&J's New York Super Fudge Chunk with hot fudge sauce. I don't bother to eat
it anymore, I just wait 'til it softens and apply it directly to my thighs.8)

#14 of 30 by eeyore on Sun Dec 15 05:31:09 1996:

somexday i'lll let you try my moms chhescake, otter....i can't eat any other.

alos, from the same women who did my carrotcake and scheesecake recipes: mocha
torte. it's kinda like souffle bottem (cake with no flour, that falls and
creates a big hollow when exposed to air). then you can decorate it one of
two ways....1: fill the hollow with rasphberry jam, and then blorp whipped
cream over the top. 2: fill the hollow AND blorp the top with whipped cream
mixced with a little brownsugar and instant coffee. and this is a double
layer cake. this makes me VERY happy!!!!! :) (i msepperate the layers, and
doa layer of each...:)

#15 of 30 by popcorn on Sun Dec 15 14:27:29 1996:

Ooo -- I'm definitely interested in this recipe!

#16 of 30 by slinkie on Sun Dec 15 15:21:45 1996:

<slinkie looks very interested in eeyore's mocha torte recipe too>
Chocolate and Coffee... what else can you ask for? :)

#17 of 30 by abchan on Sun Dec 22 15:36:13 1996:

<abchan and fireball just finished a large box of fudge>
I noticed some dessert recipes lying around the recipe archive... I'll have
to try those... someday :)

#18 of 30 by eeyore on Thu Dec 26 03:54:18 1996:

one of these days i'll start posting recipes in earnest...the mocha torte is
really easy, so i like it. :)

also, sorry about the typing in the last thing i entered....i knew that it
was bad, but i didn't realize just HOW bad!

#19 of 30 by qt314 on Fri Dec 27 16:21:40 1996:

I think my favorite thing chocolate is the chocolate dessert at Chianti on
Main. It is layers of different types of dark chocolate. There is a rich
chocolate cake layer, a chocolate fudge layer, a ganache layer, and a mousse
layer, all of which sits on a puree of raspberries. It is to die for.
(I would gladly give up my soul for another piece. Birthday dessert in 35
days)

#20 of 30 by popcorn on Fri Dec 27 17:10:33 1996:

Happy nearly-birthday!

#21 of 30 by popcorn on Fri Dec 27 17:11:33 1996:

(May I add you to the automatic birthday-wisher list? February 4, maybe?)

#22 of 30 by chelsea on Fri Dec 27 20:13:36 1996:

Re: #19 Oh, that sounds like death by chocolate. We're going
to Chianti's on New Years Eve and I'll check it out.

#23 of 30 by qt314 on Sat Dec 28 00:53:03 1996:

Valerie, thanks. :) Actually, it is January 31.:)

#24 of 30 by popcorn on Sat Dec 28 21:56:21 1996:

I've added you to the birthday-wisher. I wrote "Happy Birthday Marla (qt314)"
because I wasn't sure what your last name is. I noticed you don't use your
first name on-line either. What would you like the message to say?

Happy almost-birthday!

#25 of 30 by qt314 on Thu Jan 2 01:46:30 1997:

Valerie, What you wrote is just fine. Most people know that I am Marla by now
anyway. I do not use my last name on line for security reasons. (not for fear
from Grex, but a sadistic ex)

#26 of 30 by omni on Mon Nov 24 05:13:51 1997:

This is probably the wrong item for this, but I am ga-ga over a new product
called "Olivio" which is margarine made from olive oil. It's lighter than
the usual margarine, and has no trans-fatty acids that your body cannot deal
with. It also has 1g of fat compared with butter which has 7. I've found a
new spread!

#27 of 30 by md on Thu Nov 27 15:14:54 1997:

There's a product called "Olive It" which is a spread made from
butter and olive oil. The garlic-flavored variety is fantastically
incredibly delicious. Probably very bad for you, though, if you
worry about such things.

#28 of 30 by arabella on Sun Nov 30 09:36:59 1997:

Actually, I think the olive-oil butter substitutes (or butter blends)
are probably not very bad for you at all, when eaten in moderation.
Olive oil is primarily mono-unsaturated, which is supposed to promote
the good cholesterol (HDL, I think).

#29 of 30 by omni on Sun Nov 30 20:36:12 1997:

It has to be better than the transfatty stuff in traditional oleo, right?

#30 of 30 by davel on Mon Dec 1 11:23:29 1997:

OK, but the stuff md mentioned is (he said) olive oil & *butter*. I doubt
that any good effects from the olive oil would outweigh the effects of the
butter.
