Grex Kitchen Item 29: Let's cook up some AA!
Entered by tnt on Thu Mar 11 20:48:52 UTC 1993:

As an affirmative-action implementation, we need to have a male fairwitness
of this conference.

Any & all male volunteers should respond here, for a future vote.

65 responses total.

sigh..

#2 of 65 by popcorn on Fri Mar 12 01:45:06 1993:

i've noticed a grexian tendency to have a fair witness of
each gender in many conferences.

#3 of 65 by aa8ij on Sat Mar 13 23:45:17 1993:

I already f-w cooking on M-net along with Laurel, and it hasn't got the
activity that this one has. There is an old saying that comes to mind,

IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!!!!!

BTW, I'd be glad to volunteer if needed.

#4 of 65 by tnt on Tue Mar 23 22:17:11 1993:

Jim is a fine candidate for f-w'ing the food/cooking conference! Are other
men?

#5 of 65 by popcorn on Thu Mar 25 04:14:56 1993:

sigh...

#6 of 65 by tnt on Mon Mar 29 02:54:07 1993:

 Sorry Val, you're a female.

#7 of 65 by tnt on Wed Mar 31 05:32:32 1993:

OK, with no other candidate, I guess Jim gets it!

Which of the current f-ws volunteers to be replaced by Jim?

Remember ladies, it is for the good of society!

#8 of 65 by popcorn on Thu Apr 1 04:51:49 1993:

Like Jim said... it ain't broke.

#9 of 65 by aa8ij on Thu Apr 1 07:47:52 1993:

I would be honore to serve as a co-fw of this conf, but not at the
loss of Laurel or Denise or for the most part Valerie. I think that
Mary Remmers would do a far, far better job than I could.

#10 of 65 by chelsea on Thu Apr 1 13:45:34 1993:

Don't let Tim get to you, guys. I mean, it's a sign of
weakness when you start taking it seriously. ;-)

Kudos to everyone who participates in this conference. I've
found a lot of useful information here and feel fortunate we
have so many good cooks with such varied tastes and techniques.

#11 of 65 by tnt on Sat Apr 3 14:16:18 1993:

I'm both shocked & amazed that some of you gals don't believe in affirmative
action, or is it only when it is applied against you...

#12 of 65 by glenda on Sat Apr 3 16:07:50 1993:

Tim, go to your room.

#13 of 65 by steve on Sat Apr 3 19:28:44 1993:

No, go to the kitchen and make food for all.

#14 of 65 by tnt on Tue Apr 6 06:47:05 1993:

 Right, joke it off....

#15 of 65 by denise on Sun Apr 11 14:46:45 1993:

Who's joking about it? I think STeve was serious about #13!

#16 of 65 by tsty on Mon Apr 12 05:56:54 1993:

denise, you think tnt can cook? Just because he consumes, doesn't mean
he's any good at creation ......

#17 of 65 by headdoc on Sat Apr 24 22:30:43 1993:

Ok. Am I the only person who doesn't know what "fair witnessing" means? Its
not in Websters new collegiate dictionary. Someone with a kind heart please
elucidate. Mnay thanks.

#18 of 65 by steve on Sun Apr 25 11:34:18 1993:

The term comes from _Stranger in a strange Land_ by Heinlien. A
FW is the conference 'overseer' that guides the conference along, trims
old items out, etc. Sort of an administrator and janitor combined.

#19 of 65 by tnt on Fri May 21 19:29:25 1993:

I'm still waiting for some affirmative-action in this conference!

#20 of 65 by glenda on Mon May 24 14:08:21 1993:

And I say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". This conference is doing
fine just the way it is. There is no need to add another FW of either sex
unless one of the existing FWs desires to resign.

#21 of 65 by tnt on Mon May 24 18:47:10 1993:

I wonder if Glenda extends that philosophy to other issues, such as
affirmative action.

#22 of 65 by aa8ij on Mon May 24 21:55:20 1993:

Tim, this conferance has existed for a long time with the present f-w's
and it has not suffered in fact it has grown and become an active forum.
should one of the f-ws resign, and a new one, namely me take thier place,
then you have succeeded in possibly ruining this conf. I have a business that
demands 24 hour vigilance and I don`t (at the moment) have time to add another
thing to my plate. (npi)
I already am the co-fw of 2 confs, sports and arts, both of which are in
sorry states, because I have no time.

in short Tim, Heed glenda and SHUT the F..K up.

thank you.

#23 of 65 by tnt on Tue May 25 00:57:49 1993:

Sorry Jim, I forgot that you're a big businessman now, and I understand that
you're no longer interested in being a f-w here.

As for your other comment, I knew that a lot of people would oppose
my AA efforts, & I was prepared for some sexist & racist twerps to get
emotional, so I'm not offended.

#24 of 65 by popcorn on Tue May 25 02:36:26 1993:

Zzzzzzz.

#25 of 65 by aa8ij on Tue May 25 05:07:11 1993:

not exactly *big* but enough to stay out of the unemployment office for a
few years....

#26 of 65 by glenda on Tue May 25 13:13:16 1993:

I don't see a lot of males coming forward and volunteering to be FW in this
conference. I see no need to change something that is going along fine just
add someone of the opposite sex. And, yes, I do not like Affirmative Action
the way it is currently being used. I know too many people that are out of
work just because they weren't black, female, asian, whatever, but have all
the other qualifications for the job(s) in question (and saw jobs that they
were the best qualified for go to others that weren't qualified just because
they weren't white males so that the company could meet its minority quotas.

#27 of 65 by mythago on Wed Jun 2 12:38:05 1993:

glenda, I don't know why you're bothering...

#28 of 65 by glenda on Wed Jun 2 16:08:12 1993:

Habit, I guess.

#29 of 65 by popcorn on Fri Jun 4 03:19:33 1993:

every time i see this item i see the "AA" and think "Ann Arbor"
instead of "Affirmative Action". I end up with a mental picture
of a very large amount of land trying to fit into an ordinary
kitchen pot to be cooked.

#30 of 65 by tsty on Sun Jun 6 05:55:15 1993:

.... and the other image? .........

#31 of 65 by tnt on Fri Sep 24 06:49:28 1993:

With the recent stomping off of 'mythago,' perhaps now you SEXIST, RACIST
HOMOPHOBES will see fit to act affirmatively on this issue which you've
been refusing to settle? Perhaps.

#32 of 65 by gracel on Sat Sep 25 03:19:42 1993:

We have already acted affirmatively, we have affirmed the present fair
witnesses in their positions. (Good job, friends!)

#33 of 65 by aa8ij on Sat Sep 25 19:00:23 1993:

Since grex is getting an internet link, and mythago has utilzed this
to talk to M-net, it would indeed be foolish to act until you hear
from her.

#34 of 65 by tnt on Sun Sep 26 03:09:01 1993:

It would be foolish & irresponsible to simply first wait for Grex's Internet
connection to be fully operational, & then sit & wait to see if 'mythago'
gets back on Grex. If she was concerned about her duties as f-w here,
she would have either stayed, or resigned.

This conference certainly seems to be doing OK without her, so it
probably just doesn't need a fourth f-w. I think 3 can hanle it, even if they
are all women...! ;)

#35 of 65 by popcorn on Tue Sep 28 02:30:41 1993:

Augustus, don't go drinking from that chocolate stream over there.

#36 of 65 by tnt on Wed Dec 22 14:04:33 1993:

22 December, & still no Affirmative Action!

#37 of 65 by popcorn on Wed Dec 22 17:43:45 1993:

...but now we're only 2 female fair witnesses ahead of the number
of male fair witnesses instead of 3.

(why do I even respond to this?)

#38 of 65 by chelsea on Wed Dec 22 19:46:10 1993:

Because you have hope in your heart?

#39 of 65 by tnt on Fri Mar 4 10:09:00 1994:

 4 March 1994, & still no justice!
