Ok, its summer and a popular season for ice cream [though its great all year 'round]. What's your favorite flavor[s]? Soft serve or regular 'scooped'? What are your favorite ways to have it served [dish, cone, sundae, banana split, shake, whatever]? Favorite places to get ice cream?? And what other summer treats do you enjoy?

One of my all-time flavors is rocky road from Baskin Robbin's [though I rarely get to have it since I don't live near one; probably a good thing!]. My next favorite is probably pralines and cream... I used to not understand why people would get vanilla when there's so many 'flavored' ones out there--but in the past couple years, I've gotten to like vanilla more and more. Most of the time, I eat the regular ice cream since its more readily available but soft serve is great, too. [One summer many many years ago, I had a job where I had to scoop up ice cream to the customers. Some kinds were much harder to scoop than others. And of course, we always had a line up; eventually, I really didn't like scooped ice cream for quite some time...] Usually, I have mine in a bowl but once in awhile, I'll do the cone or something a bit more elaborate. Shakes and 'blizzards' are always good... And a month or two ago I ate out with family and we were served root beer floats; they were great and brought back lots of memories of having them during childhood.
Just heard that Traffic Jam and Snug on Canfield in Detroit has Bacon Ice Cream...
Even though i am on a strict diet i cant help but consume ice cream during summer on regular basis :( My fav flavors are Vanilla fudge ripple and Chocolate marshmallow! i usually prefer having it a disposable cup or cone!
Hot chocolate fudge! (It's raining here, and i eat ice-cream at night.)
Baskin Robbins - pralines and cream, anything chocolate, and mint chocolate chip. In a sugar cone. Yum.
Rocky Road!
Vanilla frozen custard with chocolate, puree raspberries and two shots of espresso mixed in. Or if that's unavailable, Baskin Robins's Jamoca ice cream in a waffle cone. It's a pity I can't have those (stupid diet!).
Black walnut ice cream with maple syrup on top. Baskin Robbins has it occasionally, Busch's carries the Haagen-Dazs version all the time.
Coldstone is the best! I like that I can get plain mint ice cream with out cholate mixed in. Or cake batter ice cream with raspberries and fudge mixed in. Or banana ice cream with nuts and bits of brownie mixed in. Or... Hmm, must make a Coldstone stop soon. Or hit up the Peppermint Twist in Portland... Growing up I loved Blue Moon and Superman ice creams. I've had them more recently and they taste better in my memory. ;) I prefer cones to bowls- unless it's a Coldstone waffle bowl. *laughs*
I've had some pretty interesting ice cream cakes in the past [like the ones that Baskin Robbins create]. Then, of course, ice cream WITH cake is always good. One kind of ice cream I didn't like as a kid was butter pecan... For whatever reason, I haven't tried it again since I was a kid. I don't know all the reasons why not because I do like ice cream with pecans and/or other nuts [like my favorites-rocky road and pralines and cream]. Maybe I just don't want to chance still not liking it--so I get something I *know* I'll like.
The best Ice cream in my opinion... Breyer's Butter Pecan Ben amd Jerry's Pistachio Edy's Cookie Dough Cold Stone Lemon with Strawberries Baskin Robbins Daquari Ice (before they changed it this year.)
My favorite flavor of ice cream always has been and probably always will be mint chocolate chip. I've loved it ever since i tasted it and it just gets better every time i taste it.
My favourite store-bought flavours are:
* Blue Bell Canteloupe & Cream
* Blue Bell Tres Leches con Pina y Coco
* Blue Bell Cookies 'n' Cream (Blue Bell Creameries invented this flavour)
We're very lucky in Austin to have a locally-owned chain of ice cream shops,
Amy's Ice Creams. (sorta similar to Marble Slab or Coldstone, but much
weirder). Whenever I go, I always sample the strange flavours of the day, like
Guinness, but I always end up getting Mexican Vanilla with strawberries
"crushed in".
Recently (a year or so ago, I think) Haagen Dazs introduced a flavor called "Mayan Chocolate". It's primarily chocolate, with a bit of cinnamon. Mmmmm..
I remember Superman ice cream! Everybody else told me it looked (and tasted) like Play-Doh but I loved it.
Re #14 and Mayan Chocolate ice cream: Man does that sound good. THANKS A FRIGGIN' LOT, MIKE!
I haven't been to Cold Stone but people tell me it is good. My favorite ice cream is Bryers Vanilla.
Mine too, if you mean Bryer's *Natural* Vanilla.
Yeah. That's the one I like.
I like those Bluebunny strawberry shortcake ice cream bars on a stick.
Oh, yeah, I like those things, too. I remember being introduced to them as a kid, buying one from the Good Humor truck that was going through the neighborhood [I was rarely able to get anything from GH].
[This is now linked to the cooking conference as item 251 from agora-summer, 2007, item 69.]
Mmmmm...mega-chocolate ice cream. Fortunately, i have plenty of will power at the cash register.
Ok, I'm just gonna say this once. There is a place nestled in Cleveland Ohio called Pierre's Ice Cream, who makes THE best ice cream on the planet. Fortunatly for you who dwell north of Our Glorius State, Pierres can be obtained at any Circle K store. You might want to sample the newest creation, Hola Fruita Sherbet. To Die For. Then there is Handels. They are based in Youngstown, but fortunatly have had the good sense to branch out into Toledo, Sylvania, and Perrysburg (Where the Sun Always Shines, and there is NO RAIN, except when we need it, and then only when it's convenient). Better than Coldstone, and not at all fattening. (It is widely accepted that Ice Cream, when driven for, becomes less fattening in direct proportion to the miles driven)
Wow, I didn't know that. Roadtrip in the making!
Circle K store? I'd only heard of Circle K as the college version of Kiwanis Club. Is Handels an ice cream place, or a live mix-in entertainment place? (Or aim i confusing Coldstone with somebody else?)
Yep, road-trip time! :-) Where are some of the other great places to buy/eat ice cream and its various concoctions?
I know Circle K as a gas-station convenience store. Forgot which gas station.
The Circle K near me is only a conveniance store [doesn't sell gas]. Though I've never stopped there for anyting...
Hey! I've found Hola Fruita at Kroger. The blueberry/pomegranate sherbet is wonderful!
I am looking forward to trying oberweis ice cream. Oberweis is supposed to have the highest butterfat content of any ice cream (18%) Their only store here in michigan is in Royal Oak, but they are building more.
Oh, man, that sounds excellent.
[Another grexpedition?? :-) There's a new item in the cooking [also known as kitchen] that was entered today to plan/discuss any food/drink-related excursions...]
Alma's Ice Cream Cafe out of Jackson Road has a smoothie with orange juice, pineapple juice and vanilla ice cream that tastes amazingly like an Orange Julius.
Yes, I agree, You all need to come here to see me, come to a Hens game then feast at Packo's at the Park, There is a place in Monroe county named Calder Bros. 16% butterfat and oh so good. Of course you could do like me and go right for the gold. There is cheese, St Andre which has 85% butterfat by French Law. Funny how the French can't defend themselves yet have time to make laws abut cheese.
Join us more often, omni.
Toledo isn't too far away...
(There is a Circle-K at the corner of Packard and Stadium; I can see it through the window here.) My favourite has long been French Vanilla. I also like Butter Pecan. I tried Coldstone Creamery twice and then gave up, since the ice cream was tasteless and I don't much go for mix-ins.
I recently had some kind of ice cream that had carmel swirled in it; it was good!
