Grex Kitchen Item 149: Evil snack foods.
Entered by omni on Wed Nov 26 06:14:06 UTC 1997:

Last month it was Flipz, a chocolate covered mini-pretzel, now it's
these things called Craisins, dried cranberries which have been sweetened
just enough to make them palatable. I think I'm addicted to them. I got them
at 2pm and I've eaten half the bag. Forget drugs, these snacks are way
more addictive.

So what snack are you addicted to? Don't be embarrassed. We love you
and know you have a problem ;)

Home-made chocolate pudding. I used to think it was just a phase. But it's
going on toward 4 years now. I'll sometimes go for months without it, but
the separation never lasts.

#2 of 49 by valerie on Wed Nov 26 15:06:24 1997:

Oh, by the way, Crasins contain a honking large amount of sugar. According
to the ingredient label, there's more sugar than cranberries in them. :(

#3 of 49 by omni on Wed Nov 26 17:04:43 1997:

But for the amount consumed, a good walk around the park will knock that off.
I'm not too worried.

31g of sugar is a lot, I guess. Oh well they still taste good.

I'm mildly addicted to Ruffles Cheddar & Sour Cream chips. So,
I never allow myself more than a 'big grab' bag.

#5 of 49 by eeyore on Thu Nov 27 06:45:06 1997:

I like just plain cranberries...no sugar added!

I've become quite fond of the Del Monte no sugar added pineapple
snakpacks...YUM! :)

raw carrots are my munchies of choice most of the time. since i
started cutting back my smoking, i find i'm eating a *lot* of altoids.

#7 of 49 by abchan on Tue Dec 2 04:23:55 1997:

strawberries
blueberries
(come to think of it, most berries)
chocolate
ice cream

#8 of 49 by valerie on Wed Dec 3 15:54:42 1997:

Mmmm, blueberries. Good point!

#9 of 49 by omni on Wed Dec 3 16:08:25 1997:

you people are missing the point. I am NOT talking about blueberries, and
berries which are and have been shown to be good for you. I am refering to
the snack foods that are salty/fatty/sugary and are not good for you, but you
keep eating them because the devil makes you do it. The stuff that makes you
blow your diet for the month.

#10 of 49 by abchan on Wed Dec 3 17:16:07 1997:

What's a diet? ;-)

#11 of 49 by mta on Wed Dec 3 18:18:45 1997:

Almost never touch the stuff.

(Ocassionally I'll eat potato chips or pretzels...

#12 of 49 by eeyore on Wed Dec 3 22:31:23 1997:

Little Debbie Swiss Rolls were my breakfast of choice for a long time
there...and I can never say no to a gobstopper or spree...

#13 of 49 by i on Thu Dec 4 02:27:27 1997:

Home-made chocolate anythings. I don't bake a whole lot, but when i do,
i have to give it away fast or i'll eat the whole cake, pan of cookies,
pie, or whatever in about half a week.

#14 of 49 by omni on Thu Dec 4 05:37:21 1997:

Cheesecake. Cannot have one in the house. It's like the vacuum thing, Nature
abhors a vacuum, I abhor storing perfectly good cheesecake in the frig.
Cheesecake should be eaten.

Cheesecake is evil. Especially ones from Say Cheese.

#15 of 49 by void on Thu Dec 4 05:44:07 1997:

butter pecan ice cream, so i rarely keep it in the house. about
twice a year, i get a craving for ruffles and lipton's onion soup dip.
same for denny's french silk pie, though i think i've finished a piece
of it once. new york style cheesecake, especially with strawberries.

#16 of 49 by scott on Thu Dec 4 17:33:29 1997:

Ben & Jerrys. The evil thing is that I normally wouldn't ever buy this, but
from a promotion last year (long distance) I'm still getting a free pint
coupon every month...

#17 of 49 by tao on Thu Dec 4 18:11:30 1997:

Oooh yeah, butter pecan ice cream. A real killer, that stuff.
Especially Breyer's or Stroh's Premium.

#18 of 49 by omni on Thu Dec 4 22:08:55 1997:

there was this swedish or finnish butter pecan called frudje gladje. Totally
evil, but oh such rapture!

Scott, you can always send me your voucher. ;)

#19 of 49 by void on Fri Dec 5 02:14:51 1997:

breyer's butter pecan ice cream is the best. oh...i forgot to
mention nestle' drumsticks, too. i don't keep them in the house most
of the time, and strictly limit myself to two boxes of them in summer.

#20 of 49 by valerie on Fri Dec 5 13:42:22 1997:

No no no. There's "chocolate ice cream" and there's "flavors that other
pepole eat".

#21 of 49 by valerie on Fri Dec 5 13:42:32 1997:

(er, people)

#22 of 49 by omni on Fri Dec 5 16:02:36 1997:

hmmm. That's a good point, Valerie, but Butter Pecan, when made correctly,
is on an equal footing with Chocolate ice cream.

Chocolate on the other hand is totally evil and should be banned, so there
can be more for me. Maybe I can just move to SF and get a job at Ghirardelli's

#23 of 49 by valerie on Sat Dec 6 14:16:26 1997:

Speaking of Ghirardelli, I spotted a Ghirardeli outpost in downtown Chicago
last time I was there. That seemed an awfully strange place for one.
Obviously they should put one in Ann Arbor first, if they're going to put them
anyplace other than by the water in San Francisco.

#24 of 49 by omni on Sat Dec 6 20:29:08 1997:

 I agree totally.

#25 of 49 by tao on Mon Dec 8 21:38:14 1997:

<raises eyebrows> You mean, Merchant of Vino's Girardelli products
arent the full line?

#26 of 49 by bmoran on Fri Dec 12 15:55:49 1997:

Pat and I saw the FIVE POUND CHOCOLATE BAR at Cost Plus. Man, that thing
is big.
I will eat almost any cookie. If it's dried out, I just use more milk.

#27 of 49 by omni on Fri Dec 12 17:52:12 1997:

it's not quantity, but quality, Bill. Five pound Nestle bars are of no great
excitement to me, but change that name to Ghiradelli and you have my
attention.
Speaking of biscuits, Peek Freans are fab.

#28 of 49 by valerie on Sat Dec 13 19:31:11 1997:

There's a huge honking chocolate Santa at Kilwin's ice cream shop. They're
holding a drawing to win it.

#29 of 49 by omni on Sat Dec 13 20:49:22 1997:

DIdja know the Kilwins also makes Mackinaw Island Fudge?

#30 of 49 by arianna on Thu Dec 25 16:09:42 1997:

ooo fugde...
Y';know how they say that chocolate is a substitute for sex, because it
contains the same kind of chemicals that your body produces when you have sex
(or something like that)? I think it's true -- I've always loved chocolate,
but when I'm away from my s.o., I MUST HAVE IT!!! *giggle*

Those dried cranberries and nu-mmy. Never let a hall-ful of girls have
chocolate, dried cherries and figs -- the world will never be the same if you
do......

#31 of 49 by eeyore on Thu Dec 25 21:29:07 1997:

I've seen 11lb bags of Ghiradelli Choco chips...:)\

#32 of 49 by arianna on Sun Dec 28 18:09:29 1997:

*shiver* WHERE!?

#33 of 49 by omni on Sun Dec 28 21:39:39 1997:

 Any decent supermarket has them.

#34 of 49 by eeyore on Tue Dec 30 14:35:02 1997:

I saw them at a place I was housesitting....sorry...:)

#35 of 49 by okuma on Sun Apr 5 04:49:08 1998:

ever, because my second favorite is green common Mangos (with shoyu and black
pepper.

#36 of 49 by okuma on Sun Apr 5 04:53:16 1998:

Whoops, let's try this again...
My favorite snack food is Kona coffee ice cream. I don't think
I'll be leaving Hawai'i ever, because my second favorite snack is green common
Mangos (with Shoyu and black pepper.

#37 of 49 by owl on Thu Aug 27 05:25:53 1998:

This is just a personal opinion: food is not evil. food is not sin. a cookie
is not a more issue. there is no need to discuss food in the same way
catholics discuss sex.

#38 of 49 by md on Thu Aug 27 10:28:43 1998:

Foolish, foolish person.

#39 of 49 by remmers on Thu Aug 27 17:32:14 1998:

Generally speaking, one's food choices have far more effect on
one's health than does one's choice of religion.
