I read an article recently where a survey in Consumer Reports, on veggie burgers, was quoted. They had some folks rate non-meat burgers which were grouped into two categories - those trying to taste like meat and those trying to taste like an vegetable pattie. Of the ones that tried to taste like meat, something called a Bocca burger rated highest. Of the ones not trying to be meat-like the group rated Morningstar Farms veggie burgers the best. I have always been fond of the Gardenburger brand but last night I made both Gardenburger and the Morningstar Farm burgers and had John play guinea pig. He had a preference for the Morningstar brand. I too found it slightly better with a crunchier texture and a bit of a smoky taste. But the difference wasn't remarkable so I think I'll just buy whichever is available at the time. Anyone else have a favorite brand?

I like making them from scratch. More control. I too read that Consumer Reports article, and I was surprised that they didn't mention making the burgers from scratch as an option. They're usually pretty good about including a homemade option for comparison purposes.
Last night we tried Morningstar Farms "Better 'n Burgers" brand, which is soy-based, and I suppose is more of a fake-meat product. I didn't care for it one bit. Way to much of a smokey flavor and gummy texture.
s/too/to Oh, I should add that John liked 'em.
Yep, guess I'm just a smokey, gummy kinda guy. :)
I like Fantastic Foods' Nature's Burger, which is a mix to which you add water. I haven't tried any of the pre-fab burgers yet.
Last night we had veggie burgers for dinner but fussed-up up a bit. I topped each burger with some thick and chunky guacamole, sprouts, red onion and tomato. Served next to a side of carrot, raisin and apple salad it was a colorful and yummy dinner. I really like the Morningstar Farm brand of veggie burger. But if you decide to try them be careful you are getting their all vegetable burger. They make a soy-based one too that I wouldn't recommend.
