I made up a big batch of soup stock. Basically, you take a bunch of vegetables, boil them until they're mushy, then strain the vegetables out of the stock and throw the vegetables away. I'm told the vegetables are pretty tasteless at that point. But it seems to me like a big waste of vegetable matter. I'd guess they'd go nicely on the compost heap, if I had a compost heap. Any other thoughts about what one could do with the vegetables from making soup stock? Thanks!

Well, they should be about ready to rot quickly in your compost pile, if that doesn't count as "throwing them away".
Ja, if I *had* a compost pile. Hm; maybe I should start one. The plants on the porch would enjoy it, I would think.
Maybe you could start one of those "worm farms" instead.
Take them to the next concert/play you go to, then if you don't like it, you have something to throw. >8)
I always throw the stock and the veggies in the blender and ...whirrrrrrrr...still great stock and no wasted veggies!
this from the woman with no trash cans ;)
Very cool -- #5 sounds exactly my speed. Thanks Freida!
Not a problem...glad I could help!
couldd always feed them to octal and hex....:)
Do you think they'd eat it? I've only ever given them crunchy veggies. These were decidely non-crunchy. :)
So if they don't are you any worse off? I'd worry a bit more about the effect of cooked veggies on guinea-pig physiology. (I'm sure a small amount wouldn't hurt. I wonder about large helpings. But quite likely OK.)
mine eat lettuce (their favorite! :), tomatoes, carrots, celery (sometimes :), and parsnips, that i know about. it's always worth a try...the worst that's gonna happen is that they don't eat it.
Mine adore anything green and crunchy, from broccoli stems to parsley and lettuce. They also like carrots and apples a lot. They'll eat almost any fruit or vegetable: mushroom pieces, tomato chunks, banana pieces, melon rinds etc. I find it hard to picture them eating cooked vegetables, though, especially ones that were cooked 'til they were mushy. Dunno....
if they eat bananas...that's abut the same texture...
