Grex Kitchen Item 124: Another Take off-Road Food [linked]
Entered by denise on Tue May 28 21:39:52 UTC 1996:

Ok, the previous item is for cool places to stop and eat on driving/
road trips [heck, I know people that take looong trips JUST for the
dining experiences... but that discussion is for the previous item].

This item is for the discussion of other MUST-HAVE snacks and/or drinks
while on the road--stuff you either make ahead or buy at the grocery/
drugstore/gas station. Do you tend to snack/nibble all day? Or maybe pack a
picnic lunch and a few snacks, too?

[This is item 124 in cooking and item 55 in travel.]

This item has been linked from Cooking 124 and Travel 55
to Intro 42. Type "join cooking" at the Ok: prompt for
discussions of food, both dine-in and take-out, and
type "join travel" for discussions of where to take
your take-out.

Heh, linked twice without any actual content whatsoever!
Personally, when I'm driving I just chew my fingernails ...

Mountain Dew. Lots of it.

If I am driving to a far enough place, I will go to Meijer and buy enough
soda, pretzels, and various other things so I don't have to stop, for there
is nothing more annoying than stopping and losing time on the trip. Like I
have said in previous places, I take driving way to seroiusly to have fun
doing it.

I like to have unsalted peanuts and rasins for a long drive. Dry breakfast
cerial is good too. I also like to try to have some water, juice, and/or pop
if I find the cooler and keep them cold. Drink with a straw so you can see
the road without looking around the cup, can, or bottle.

Fruit, sandwiches, hard-boiled eggs, juice boxes, pretzels, bagels,
*not* fingernails ... We tend to a mild degree of carsickness,
manifested as always feeling a little hungry even after a large meal.
