Dan Romanchik suggested having an item to talk about the "recipe" command. Basically, unless your picospan settings are set funny, you can type "recipe" for information about how the command works. You can use "recipelist" to see a list of recipe categories, or to get a list of individual recipes in a category. The recipes are the ones from the old edition of the cooking conference. They are stored in the directory /usr/recipes, if you're interested in finding the actual recipe files.

cool. thanks.
cool. thanks.
So once you get the list of recipes, how do you get at the actual recipe??
Type "recipe" for info. (Hint: from the third sentence to the end is the answer to your question).
You can now type "bread" to see the latest issue of an internet bread machine digest. (Sorry Laurel!) If you want the actual file it's stored in, it's in the file /h1b/bbs/kitchen2/latest.bread.digest.Z, a compressed file.
Yowser! Thanks, Valerie.
Will you be adding new recipes as their entered in items here, or will you wait until we do another restart to add new recipes?
i'll wait for the next re-start, unless someone else wants to volunteer to keep up with new recipes as they are entered.
Did anyone see Susan Ager's recent column on bread machines? It was in the Freep either Monday or Wednesday.
I missed it. What did she have to say?
She agrees with Laurel.
It's a tough row to hoe, being a bread-machine resister.
It's a tough row to hoe, DISagreeing with Laurel ......sfsf.
neat recipes - much jack-o-lantern thankxx
Just ran into an interesting "problem." Where did the recipes go? In the preceeding response I was serious aboutthe recipies and jsut the other day had the opportunity to download the bunch ... I thought. I looked in a few directories but ony found a few ascii-tracks where the recipies HAD BEEN, it seems. I chased around a bit, but couldn't find them and din't want to run a find -name thingie, nor did I have the time to do so. So my question is: Where are the recipe files to be found?
Check out /h1b/recipes Files are compressed; soon to be uncompressed and zipped to save space. Type "zcat filename | more" to see the contents of zipped file "filename".
Let me have a couple days to download the bunch - thanks.
I hate these commands... Oh well, so I won't download!
Actually denise, I never download from picospan, because my wonderful Mac has this neat litte thang called "text capture". I make a Macwrite file then edit the file, then print the little bugger and put it in the binder. best thing for you to do is, start your text capture, enter the recipe command then when the data is done turn off yer capture. Then later, edit the unwanted things out, and print the hard copy out. The only things that I really need to use commands for is ones that are in my or someone else's .cfdir.
Recipes are back! They're stored in /usr/local/recipes these days.
These commands have never worked for me, for some reason.
You have a "set nosource" in your .cfonce file. To make the commands work for you, type "source /bbs/kitchen2/rc".
Ahhh. so that's it.
Yes, Valerie!
I did the change and it now works like it should. I was never sure of what source actually did. (Wish I had read the man pages...)
Does anyone know the recipe for making "fried dough".
(The 'bread' command isn't working. It gives a zcat: permission denied error...)
You're sure right. And here's why: -rw------- 1 popcorn 73109 Sep 1 20:52 /bbs/kitchen2/latest.bread.digest.gz <coughs & clears throat>
Ooops, sorry. It's fixed now. Hey, this means that someone other than me actually reads it. Cool! :)
*smiles*
I got that too, but I was too lazy to tell anyone about it.
I'm having trouble using this recipe command... I can get to each of the catagories but when I want a *particular* recipe, I can't get it! :-( [.
maybe I can help, Denise. What are you looking for?
Odd. Denise, what are you typing?
I had just followed the instructions, I had typed !recipe, got the list of categories, picked a category, then a recipe, and couldn't get the actual recipe! I always seem to have trouble with the out of ordinary [for me] stuff online.
<abchan doesn't think you need the ! just typing recipe should work>
Denise, which category did you choose, and when you picked a recipe what exactly did you type? Does this go wrong for any recipe, or only for certain ones? (Tip: You have to type enough of the recipe's name to differentiate it from any other recipes that start with the same letters.)
Hmm, this last time it worked!! Like the first time, I typed the recipe command, then chose chicken, then picked a recipe [this time I typed friend, got the recipe ok!] The last time I had tried, I had used a different chicken recpie but can't recall which one... I then just tried a different category and this still works fine. Dunno what went wrong last time-0-as I tried it different ways and categories...! Oh well, its great now! :-)
I've made some progress on updating the recipe archives. The recipes from the "recipes for the last thing you cooked" item are now in the archives. Three-billion items to go....
