How do you create a new conference? Can this be done using BackTalk or do I have to telnet in? July 3, 1998 10:49pm EDT

You create a new conference by a 3-step process. 1) "join coop" This is the conference where people discuss how Grex is organized and run. 2) type "read 34" This will take you to the item called "The Conference Request Item. 3) Suggest the topic for a new conference by entering a response. After you have suggested the new conference, users of Grex will discuss the pros and cons of the topic, suggest similar conferences, and in general try to come to concensus about whether or not the topic is broad enough to merit a conference. Once consensus is reached, if there is agreement that a new conference is needed, people will be asked if there is someone(s) who is willing to fairwitness the conference. Once a fairwitness is named, the staff will create the new confrenrence. One good way of assessing whether there is enough interest to create an entire new conference is to start a few items in the Agora conference. These should be the basic topics that might be included in the new conference. From the participation levels on these items, you can often tell whether there are enough people interested in these topics to sustain a conference.
