Hello, and welcome to the Intro conference! This is your chance to find out what the conferences on Grex are all about. If you've never used a computer conferencing system before, this may seem a little confusing. This conference will help you understand how to use the conferencing program, and show you the kinds of things we talk about here. Some of you may be more familiar with the various real-time chat programs of the Internet, like IRC (Internet Relay Chat) or our own "party" program. I think you'll find that this is a much different animal, since the discussion doesn't take place in real-time, this gives people a chance to put more time and thought into what they say, and lets them be more eloquent. The best analogy that I've heard so far is that conferencing is like graffiti on a wall. One person writes something on a wall, then the next day somebody else write a response underneath that, the next day both the original person and a new person each come and write a response to that response, and so on. (The main difference is that here, the length of the responses is longer, and hopefully the level of the discussion will be better.) The next item will give you a list of the basic commands you'll need to know to use PicoSpan, our conferencing program.
