I can only answer part of your question. Certainly as of today, Grex cannot help you with news, because we don't have it either. I cannot say what your company is doing. It may be supporting news just fine, but your browser may not know how to find it. This is a matter of configuring your browser (Netscape Navigator) to know which machine to get news from. I am familiar with Netscape Navigator 1.1N for the Mac. You must go to the Options menu, select "preferences" and in the dialog select "mail and News:" in the popup menu. then you have the oppportunity to cpecify the nntp server. Your ISP or Company should provide you with the hostname of the machine that has news on it. This is your nntp server. If you put that into your Netscape Navigator preferences, it should work. It should be somewhat similar on a PC, I would hope.
If I'm remembering right, that's exactly the same procedure as is used in both the 16 and 32 bit versions of Netscape for Windows (the 16 bit version is for Windows 3.1, while the 32 bit version is for Windows 95 and Windows NT), as well as the X Windows version. Netscape is amazingly standardized across different platforms.
Thanks to both Steve's your reply's sorted out my problem.
Yep, works exactly the same on all versions of Netscape. The Netscape newsreader has somewhat limited functionality--no kill files, as far as I know--but is okay for casual use, which is how I use it. For serious newsing, I prefer tin on the main Unix box at work.
You could also try "http://www.dejanews.com/" for a web-page-based method of searching/reading usenet newsgroups.
Dejanews is avail. here on grex. Use lynx! From the main page, choose internet, choose hot picks, and dejanews is one of the options. Read and post away.
