This item is for MOTDs that you pick up out there on the Internet.
They are interesting in various ways, and also carry ideas for Grex
to consider.

     To combat further machine break-ins, we've implemented deeper
     security on GDFN. Amongst other changes, the system now pays
     attention to more characters in your password. Previously, only the
     first 8 characters of your password were significant. This brings up a
     problem. If you had a password that was more than 8 characters
     before the outage, you won't be able to use it to log in now. To
     get around this, simply use the first 8 characters of your password
     but do not type the rest of it. Then after you've logged in
     successfully, select "Change your Password" under the User Services
     menu to establish a new password. Your new password will not be
     subject to the 8 character limit and in fact should be more than 8
     characters to protect your account well.

I guess Grex isn't the only system with security problems.  >8(

I'm surprised that even FreePort Software is liable to hacking. One
doesn't get a unix shell on GDFN, so entry is even more difficult than
on Grex (or, is it?).
