This is the item for roller-coaster afficianados, like me. Any discussion about theme parks is welcome. To start with, the Raptor at Cedar Point is awesome.

Cedar Point has a lot of great coasters. Where is the next nearest roller coaster to us? Is there anything to the rumor about a new amusement park proposed for the area across the road from the Ypsilanti Radison? Now that the Raptor is opened, have the lines for the Magnum and the Mean Streak gotten any shorter?
The nearest WERE at Boblo for what it was worth, but their closed for good. Suppose that it's a toss up between Paramount's King's Island and Six Flags over Mid-America. K I is the best, (next to cedar point of course!) because they have the Beast!
I've heard all sorts of rumors about Amusement parks being built in the area, but doubt it'll happen fora while. It'd be a great market to tap in to though. Raptor = *awesome*. Go down there *right now* and ride it. It makes the Magnum look simple. I can't tell about line length yet, because I was there last Wed. (going again Mon.) when the lines for everything were non-existant.
There was somebody who wanted to build an amusement park on the other side of Ypsilanti last year, I think, but it fell through due to concerns about traffic volume.
THE RAPTOR IS REALLY AWESOME! THE RAPTOR IS REALLY AWESOME! Ride the front car at night.....unbelieveable experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were down there about a month ago on the weekend,. Took forever for the raptor, but everything else was real quick to ride...
A tip for the wimps who think it's cool to put up your hands while riding a coaster: HAH pick up your feet instead! No control! 'S great!
If you find yourself on the east coast near Virginia, check out Busch Gardens. They have a somewhat new coaster called Drachen Fire that not only goes thru loops and curves but is constantly twisting in the process. Great fun. The big bad wolf is a suspended coaster. I loved it. I think being in the front car would be the best ride of all. Loch Ness Monster has a killer first hill.
My 11-year-old son is discovering the joy of coasters now. We went to King's Island last month and the first ride he went on was The Beast. After that, everything was tame by comparison, including the loop rides and the suspended ones.
Nothing beats the mean streak at Cedar Point!
I've been to Cedar Point since the last time I looked at this item, and I must agree that the raptor is AWESOME! I loved the sound the thing made for us while we were waiting in line. Do you think they built it to sound like that, or did the sound arise out of the design naturally?
Favorite coasters: Beast -- King's Island, Cincinnati Ohio Magnum -- Cedar Point, Sandusky Ohio Mean Streak -- Cedar Point King Cobra -- King's Island
*wishes*
Has anyone else ever been to Hershey Park? Rollercoasters AND Chocolate :)
I"ve been to Hershey Park- years ago, when I was in high school in Maryland. Never been to Cedar Park, though.
Chris and I went to Cedar Point a few weeks ago. That sound the Raptor made which I mentioned in resp:11 a few years ago was not nearly as distinctive as I remember. The characteristics of the track, wheels and/or the bearings must have changed over the years of use and maintenance. But it was still lots of fun to ride. I think I can still say it is awesome. ;) CP claims to have 16 coasters now, but two of them are for the kiddies. I managed to ride the remaining 14 plus Power Tower, Snake River Falls, Witches' Wheel, and Thunder Canyon all in one day. And we also took a bonus second ride on one of my favorite coasters, Gemini. We got on the Raptor first thing in the morning before much of a line had built up. There was no line to speak of for Magnum. Literally less than a 5 minute wait for Mantis. Mean Streak was closed the first time we checked, but when we came back, I think it had just reopened - there was barely a wait. The wait for Wicked Twister could not have been much more than 20 minutes. We used "Freeway pass" to cut the line for the Millennium Force. At 40 minutes, TTD was the longest I had to wait for anything. And, since we went to the park on a Friday and bought the tickets a day in advance at Meijer, we saved some money on the admission. Last time we were at CP was 1998 when the Power Tower was new. I did not go on PT on that trip because the line was too long. So on this trip, I got to enjoy 4 different rides that I had never been on before. Did I just say it's been 5 years since our last visit to CP? I had a really great time. That's way too long. Please remind me to go back in the next year or two!!! I rode the fast-down side of the Power Tower. It was a really fun ride with a great view from the top, but I must remember to try the fast-up side next time. Wicked Twister was very cool. I really enjoyed hanging high in the air and looking straight down. Next time, I will want to ride either the front or back of the train to get a bit higher!. Top Thrill Dragster is amazing! TTD opened as the tallest (420 feet) and fastest (120 mph) coaster in the world. I've read about lots of problems that they've had with TTD this first year of operation, but it was working quite well when we were there. I got in line at about 7:20 and launched by about 8:00. What a ride!! How are they going to top this one? One aspect of the TTD that was disappointing to me was the sound. They have loud speakers blaring the sounds of an internal combustion engine revving and rubber tires peeling out as the train is launched. What's with that? Why don't they think I would enjoy hearing the sounds of the ride's real hydraulic drive and metal wheels on metal track? Millennium Force is the largest traditional coaster I have ever seen. That is to say unlike TTD and WT, it has a regular chain-driven lift hill near the beginning of the ride. It was a terrific ride, and I was glad that Chris came on it with me. But we went on after 9:00 pm. A lot of the time, I could not see where I was going which, I think, took away from my enjoyment of the ride. Next time I hope we can go on MF in daylight.
