Ramble pointlessly here!
9 responses total.
You know, I've always been one to ramble. not about anything in particular you understand, just about things in general. n Now i have an item that I can do it in and that's just hunky dory with me. I was driving from visiting my mother in the hospital this afternoon and i stopped to order a number two food meal at mcdonalds over out here by my home and the sweet girl who gave me back the right change and even put napkins in the bag did not give me a straw for my 16 oz coke drink. that kinda burns me up you know? i mean i worked for mcdonalds for 3 years 4 mos and i know where those cups have been and i don't wanta put my mouth on the rim of one of them. But NO!!! no straw for me. Being the nice polite sort of chap i am I didn't both to go back to the establishment and get her fired. Remember I worked for those people, I KNOW how to get them fired. But I mean it was just a straw after all, not like it was a needle infected or possibly infected with the HIV virus, but actually you never know these days, they're always telling you something new about AIDS and perhaps one day they'll discover you can get it from therims of mcdonalds cups. you just can't tell. Actually I told you a little white lie earlier, the drink was a 21oz drink. They call those Medium drinks for those of you who might not be in the business. I was mistaken in saying 16oz. but everyone makes a mistake now and then. Did anyone notice how screwy Merit was last night around 2:30am? I thought it was just me, but some hacking around revealed that it was a 'Merit-Wide' occurance. It would have been nice to have received some sort of warning. I mean it wasn't a crash, because I was still getting Which host? prompts and all that jazz. I just don't understand it. If they were doing a backup or something why no notice to us poor people on the lines. Actually I appreciate Merit a lot. without merit and the msu-gopher I'd pay a small fortune in LD calls to Grex, but now I can get connected via a local call. Isn't life grand? I like to ramble a lot, but now I have an item I can officially do it in w/o being accused of drift. That is really something great and marvelous I think. what about you, what do you think?
Ahem: As fairwitness, I am supposed to have an interest in the goings on in this conference. However, I usually "forget" drifting items, and plan to do so with this one. Should something come up requiring my attention, please send me mail.
I will do that. NOT!!!
Gee, do you have to be a Boy Scout to make a (k)not like that?
No. Stop it, or I'll beat you with my wings~!
This item is stupid. I'm going to freeze it and wait patiently for an FW to kill it,
That's too bad, because I could
Probably get some good milage off
A good drift item. Not that I drive, mind you,
I just use the metephor. You know, like
Saying you're "on the road" or "steering clear"
Of something. How would I know.
I got my driver's liscence when I was 16
And never stepped foot in a car. Except once
When I lied to get a job, and the next thing I know
I'm driving a van to Dominoe's Farms
With a van-load of expensive computer stuff,
And it becomes pretty apparent to the salesman I'm with
--Who thinks I can drive--
That I can't drive. So I have to make it look like I can drive.
And then we arrive at Dominoe's Farms
And I have to park in this uphill unloading dock,
Which is a nightmare. And this actually happened:
I'm with an old salesman named "Bob"
Who talks alot about nothing in particular.
He's the dad of one of the owners of
The store I work for.
Anyway, Bob and I arrive at DF with
A van-load of computer stuff.
We wait for an hour, trying to call
Whoever is supposed to meet us--because at DF
You can't just walk in.
And as we're waiting, we notice that
Two dopey-looking guys in jumpsuits
Are washing this brand new Jeep Cherokee.
Bob starts up a conversation with one of them,
About how in the hell do we contact so-an-so
And why are they washing a Jeep at 4:30
In the afternoon, etc. And they tell us
That this is TOM MONAHAN'S DAUGHTER'S JEEP,
And that they are washing it
FOR HER, BECAUSE SHE'S GOING OUT TONIGHT.
I am stunned by this--mostly because
These guys act like it is some
Special duty
To be doing it.
After a couple of minutes of us calling upstairs
Trying to let whoever it is (some medical insurance company)
Know that WE ARE HERE. A blond girl, about 25yrs old,
Pounces out of a doorway and runs down to the jeep,
Gets in,
And leaves WITHOUT SAYING THANK YOU
To anyone.
And that's not all!
We finally, after quite literally having to beg,
Get let in. We go through a gauntlet of security.
At one point we stand in room, about 5' by 5'
Asking a hole in the wall to let us in.
We wait another 10 minutes.
Then, as if nothing unusual ever happens, ever,
A tall, nerdy looking person WHO IS MISSING HIS LEFT EAR
Steps in, looks at the computer equipment we are hauling
And says to us: "Ah! Good! Now I can play more video games!"
We follow this person down a long, empty hallway
That smells like carpet cleaner
To a labyrinth of cubbie holes where he works.
He takes us to "The Back Room":
A cement-lined warehouse with file boxes and GIANT
Garbage cans filled with paper.
He tells us to wait while he gets the key to another door.
While I am waiting, I begin casually snooping around.
I take a few papers from one of the garbage cans, and then
A few more, and I read them.
They are all OPERATING ROOM DEATH REPORTS
On mothers who had died
WHILE HAVING AN ABORTION.

wow. drift-o-rama. drift-a-dabba-doo. the drift-in-ator. or is that alligator?
Is this drifting or venting? or a little of both? So did you ever get to deliver the computer stuff? At my last job (boy, I'm glad I'm out of there), we (the editorial staff) had to put up with dinosaur computers while the production staff always got top-of-the-line Macs and software. I hated my boss's boss who did everything she could to make money, but she refused to spend any when it came to editorial. and then there was the time...
