There are dog-people and cat-people. And I'm sure there are other kinds of people. And probably variations on the theme. What pets do you have?

My beakful terror, oops, I mean beagle-terrier, is curled up and taking a nap next to a space heater. Skeeter is bi-lingual, since her first three years were around farm cats. She's been with me for ten years, which means in dog years she should be collecting Social Security. I've also got a bunch of tropical fish. Mostly tetras with a gourami, a couple of sharks, algae eaters and a snail. I'd like to keep catfish and placostemas as soon as I figure out how to have them survive for more than two months...
We have a cat named Tess and a frog named Sticky. Tess showed up at our back door a few years ago and demanded to be let in. She simply would not take no for an answer. Our kids begged and pleaded, so I told tham I'd take her to the vet and have her tested for feline leukemia virus, and if she tested negative we'd keep her. The vet came out and said he had good news and bad news: the good news was that the cat tested negative for feline leukemia virus; the bad news was tha she was pregnant. Lauren named her Tessarina, and we've called her Tess ever since. Sticky is a tropical tree frog that Lauren just had to have. I created a terrarium habitat for him, with lots of live plants and stuff. We dump a dozen live crickets in once a week, and he seems to be happy. (I guess the cricket population counts as pets, too.)
Frogs and toads are our daughter's special love. We had had two toads for quite a few years, but they got old and died, so only one tree frog remains. We also have an aquarium with two voracious silver-dollars, two pygmy cats, and a school of guppies. There are also spiders all over the house. Everyone except the spiders have names.
3 cats. 3 times the hair, 3 times more frequent litter box changing, 3 times the love.
3 cats. Morgan, Tambour, and Shiva. Extra points if you can figure out which one has ripped up the most furniture.
This item is now also item 37 in the "ing" conference.
Well, unfortunately my pets aren't here (I live in a dorm and they are a no- no), but at home I have a Greman Shepard, she abhors violence, won't even let my mom tickle my brother. And I have a big, black cat named Alex, Leader of the local Cat Gang.
RE:#6 Let me guess...Shiva, the Destroyer?
The closest thing to a pet I have is my roommate Oid. He requires very
little maintenance.
I'd love to have a python and a kitten, so I could raise them together
and teach them to overcome their natural antipathy. But I cannot undertake
such things at present. <sniff!> <sigh>
That would be "Siva"
.
the dot under the s is important, and means the "sh" sound.
Re#0:
Prior to the news of my move to Malaysia, I had two half-sister
cats. One was black with brown and white splotches, the other was a faded
orange, almost pink. My big dog, Koko, was a Lab/Bloodhound (and supossedley
Collie) mix. She had no Collie traits in her. My sister's little shelty,
Angus, died a few months ago. My new little dog, a Cocker Shi Tzuh mix
is still here. She's about 7 months old now.
The cats were given to the Humanine Society with a donation of $100.00
to help them find good homes. No one who ever called about them came to
see them. Koko we gave to a friend who is the care taker of Wright's Lake
Bouy Scout camp. The little dog, Freki (which means "greedy one") is living
here until our move. At that time, she will live in Minnesota with my
uncle Chris Simer, or with my father's parents. our possibly even with
my Cousin, Mark Christain Arnesen. The exact location has not yet been
determined.
I am a cat person, with two cats.
I've got two little monsters, errrr I mean loveably cats. Tonchi, a calico, was our first, and Chispa (aka Bud) was our second. Bud is about 20 pounds, but is afraid of just about everything. Tonchi is only nine pounds, but is nearly fearless.
I have a perakeet who is really a vulture in disguize
I have 5 cats, not including the ones who show up at my door or in my barn once in a while. Also, a rabbit, 2 cockatiels, and 2 tanks of fish (one tank jumbo fantail goldfish, one tank gouramis and such). I also have a horse or two. My cat Ratface looked into my eyes the other day, and said loudly, "Marijuana." I kid you not.
Does your cat do pot?
I have five frat-boys who live upstairs. They bark a lot, mess up the yard, and are not quite housetrained..... lol But you just gotta' love 'em! They require very little maintenance, and they keep the Jehova's Witnesses away from the door.... lol I highly recommend them. I breed them with the sorority girls on my block, and should have a few frat-pups available by mid-summer...... drop me a line if you would like one :)
I wouldn't consider Fraternity boys "pets," but I guess people have their own ways of dealing with things.
I don't have any pets at present, but when I was growing up, my dad brought home a small black labrador retriever. He was so small that he fit in the palm of your hand with room to spare. We named him Duke. As Duke grew up, he became a excellent retriever, and dog-about-town. As with humans, he had a few hobbies, the main was propagation of the race, and eating felines. When he went on trips, he rode with one paw on the driver's lap, and occaisionally attempted to drive the van. When we stopped for a meal at McDonalds, Duke had to have a Quarter pounder and large fries, and water. If he did not get his order, he would howl loudly until he got either some of your order, or his own. It payed to buy Duke his meal in the long run. Sadly, Duke died on the same night that my father died. April 24 1979. Duke was a hell of a dog.
When we moved here, we had one cat- a fluffy orange thing named "Featherduster"
I used to say that her name referred to both ends, but actually she wasn't that
dumb, and was an excellent babysitter. I also had a horse named Tigger, a
young Arab that I had had since he was 2, also a good babysitter and had a
very playful sense of humour. Then I took in two cats for my best friend- it
was me or the pound... When she realized she would not be able to take them
back, I placed one with a friend who would idolize him suitably and the other
at a barn where no one complains about her operatic efforts and she is too
happy killing things to holler much anyway. The horse was sold last Spring- it
was a tough decision, but I had neither the time nor money to give him the
work he needed. He's much happier now. I miss him.
Featherduster got squashed by a car two Junes ago. We still miss her,
probably always will. She was just about eight. This Fall we got a new
kitten, also orange but thankfully a short hair this time. Her name is
Amber and she's mostly a ball of energy in a fur coat. Very sweet but a bit
rough. Good with the baby but no patience for Timothy.
Before we came here, we also had a cat named Everest- a mottled long
hair. We weren't sure she was smart enough to get out of the road so we gave
her to a friend farther out in the country. I also had a ferret named Kigva
who died just before we moved. Very sweet but very oppinionated. I'd like to
get another. Before I had her, at one point I had a cat named Slinky and a
Burmese Python named Buddha. A summer roommate wanted to get a guinea pig, so
I suggested that we could put its cage on top of the snake's and frustrate all
three animals. She shut up...
I've had a number of other animals, including a dog, another horse,
a pair of turtles, a few goldfish and about three or four other cats, but I've
blithered enough for now. Michael had never had any pets until he lived with
me except for a pair of parakeets when he was about four.
I have a pet tortoise...his name's JayTooey....he's been with us a long ime..
We have a beagle named Wimsey who is very cute and, because of that, very spoiled. :)
That sounds like Skeeter. ;-)
Or my Grandmother's Jack Russel, Mick.
I am owned by Spot T. Cat, she says, lifting her head off my leg to check out the responses. Long before she became part of the ST:TNG crew, whe dropped in on day an claimed possession. Seh is a long-hair white & black of American Classic heritage. Probably about 14 years old now.
Shouldn't this item be titled "The PettING Item?"
(It is linked to the ING conference.)
I have two cats and a rat.. one cat weighs about 60 lbs and is like 14 years old and can't see (but i still love 'im) and the other is a 3ish year old kitty. pretty small. The larger cat is named Iroquois and the smaller one Scramble (i didn't name it!) The rat is Kiowa. I like her. She's cool... she can read.
I have a mini dachsund named tillie. Don't ask, she can probably whip your dog's butt. Ask carson, ziggy or vishnu.
She's cool. what you do, is taunt her with an object, then bring to the object right on somebody's neck, then move it real quick and their head just goes 'snap' off. she tastes like chicken.
I have two degus (looks like more are on the way--again) a trouble maker of a maine coon kitten named Argent--he loves keyboards so my typos aren't always my fault, turning off answering machines, and steakingOA oops stealing pens. I keep a low maintenance fish named edison in a lightbulb tank in my office to keep my students' children amused. anyone want to get a degu baby mailed to them? ;)
WEll, I am a dog person, but with a kid allergic to fur, we have a leopard gekko. Leopard gekko whose name is Kittimer Bob.
what is a degu?
Two cats over here, Winston and Sidney. No dogs. No fish. No gila monsters. But we do have a teenager.
re 30:
If your only problem with your pets getting on the keyboard is
that they make typos for you, you're lucky. I know somebody whose cat
started messing with his keyboard when he had left the computer in DOS
Shell, and the cat ended up erasing some files.
Hmm... I know who that is...
So, Mary, which are the pets?
I have a printcat. That is, I have a cat that likes to sleep on the printer. He's caused more than one paper jam. Or sometimes he'll get on top of the monitor and let his tail hang down so it blocks my view of part of the screen.
degus are south american gerbil types--hardier and longer living. they have chi chinchilla type ears and slightly squashed (compared to most rodents) faces.
I, of course, live with my dog, Buddy. He is part beagle, part something else, and part tornado. I have managed to train him to only get into and chew things I don't want. For example, this morning I came home from a short trip to the store to find that he had eaten two utility bills. Good Dog! By the way, some time in the future, when I have more space (and a backyard), I plan to get a female dog and name her Holly. That way, I can go around the neighborhood looking for my dogs, yelling, "Buddy! Holly! Buddy! Holly!"
