And now for a question not related directly to Grex. I know I can use
Archie to search anonymous ftp sites for file names, or parts of file names,
such as
`archie -s zcomm' to get a listing of all locations that have files with
`zcomm' as a case-insensitive substring of the name. But what if I want to
something different, like a key-word search on the word `zmodem' or
something like that? I realize this may vary from system to system, but is
there an internet resource that in general, provides such a key-word search
capability?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

The general purpose internet keyword search tools are WAIS (a whole protocol just to do keyword searches) and Gopher (where keyword searches are a small piece of the whole picture). Archie has an exact keyword search mode (use "archie -e zcomm" for instance). For this particular search you would do well to hit the WAIS database "comp.archives", where it should give you hits on half a dozen zmodem versions or programs for various platforms.
Question: where can I find a list of mailing-lists?
I don't know if there is one on-line, but you can buy one at a bookstore. Alternatively, there is a mailing list for mailing lists. Creators of new lists announce there lists here, and people can ask if there's a list on a topic they want to discuss. I don't have the address handy, but I'll dig it up.
Look at article number 388 in newsgroup news.announce.newusers The header to that article claims that 714 mailing lists are listed in six postings!
