Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to bbs; can I get onto InterNet from Grex, & how.

Do you want to send Internet mail, or were you interested in Usenet news?
If you're talking about Internet mail, you first need to know the
Internet mail address of the person you want to send mail to.
On another system, my login name is "tim" and the computer system is
ais.org.
To send mail to that account from here, I'd type "mail" at the Grex
Ok: prompt, & tat would put me into the mail menu. Following the instructions
to Send mail, I'd type "tim@ais.org" at the prompt for the addressee.
You'll probably want some help using the mailer system on Grex, & I think
typing "help mail" at the Ok: prompt will show you a text file on using
it.
There are a few good books about Internet in general. They're
THE INTERNET COMPANION, by Tracy LaQuey, and/or THE WHOLE INTERNET User's Guide
and Catalog, by Ed Krol.
Both would be available at any decent bookstore.
Currently Grex is connected to the internet only indirectly through machines that support UseNet news and email. Email can be used by anyone logging into grex, and UseNet is also available for reading by all members of the public. Posting to UseNet is available to members of Grex (becoming a member is cheap, though). If you already know how to use standard client programs for mail (like mail or elm) you know all you need to know. If not you can always get help by posting questions here or better yet, in the "info" conference. (Type "j info" at the OK prompt.) There's lots of help there. Similary there is trn for reading news. And there is much help in the info conference. If you want additional internet facilities, like telnet, finger, or ftp, you will have to wait (like the rest of us) for a full internet connection. There's information about what the Grex board is doing to make this come about in the co-op conference (Type "j coop").

If you want full internet access you can also get an account on a system that has it, e.g. on Msen. I'll put some details in classified in case anyone wants to know more.
Response not possible - You must register and login before posting.
