How do I download a posting from Usenet to my Mac so that I receive a readable text file? I tried downloading it using kermit, but I got a "document" that wasn't readable by any application I have on my Mac. I'm using the Microphone terminal emulator, so I have x-modem, z-modem, & kermit (at least there be others).

Use xmodem. do a !sx -a <filename> or omit the ! if at a unix prompt.
Or !sz for zmodem, and !sb for ymodem.
Hmmm... Not sure why the protocol should make any difference in the final result. It may be a matter of choosing text mode or binary mode for the transfer. (I'll let Mac experts field this one -- I'm a PC pern m'self.)
I use both (unfortuantely), and you have to use the -a switch, or else...
What does the -a (or its absence) do? (Always trying to learn..:).
the absence thereof sends it in a binary format the -a tells it to send it in a ASCII format. but of course.. you've got to set your comm program to ASCII format also.
Sometimes you do. Depends on the protocol. With zmodem, I think the sender tells the receiver what the format is.
