Hi, everyone. The long promised Grex Handbook (Wizard in Training) has gone to press. Now I'm working on a new document. I want to list some of GREXes coolest utilities. What are ythe ones you can't live without, what do they do, and how do they work? Thanks for your help with my research!

You mean aside from the standard Unix ones?
<orinoco steps aside and lets the unix-literate handle this>
Well, if you don't absolutely need it to GREX, but it adds to the experience, I guess. I'm not really sophisticated enough at this point to know whether a neat trick was written by janc back in '83, has always been a part of UNIX, or was written by some helpful grexer along the way. Neither is the user this booklet is aimed at, so actual origin doesn't matter. I haven't got a name for it yet, but something to the effect that now that you can use the GREX basics, here's some "tricks" it can do and hoops it can jump through. Things maybe, like personalizing the item and response headers you see, using (Gate?) (Gateway?) whatever that wonder ful critter is that lets me back up over line breaks to make corrections. Etc. And lots of them that I don't know about.
Gate is definitely a cool utility.
Yeah, but I think everyone new is getting gate now automatically. If you want to call it a utility, you can, I guess, but I think of gate as more of an integral part of the conferencing system. kermit is a nice utility. So is sz/rz and newmail.

Cool, everyone gets Gate automatically now? Yes, Filebrowse was one I wanted to include ... what are kermit, sz and rz? and could y'all either post howto here or mail it to me? Thanks M
kermit sz and rz are programs to upload and download files between grex and one's home computer.
zip & unzip are PKZIP-compatible programs quite nice for anyone transferring files to DOS boxes, or the other way. I *hope* you're putting in man.
<orinoco wonders what this "gate" thing is>
